Title: Camden Supercharger
Post by: Roman808 on November 16, 2005, 12:48:34 AM
How much ponies should i get from a camden supercharger? Just bought one from my friend, He said it was sitting for like 10 years. when I first got it didnt want to turn over felt like it was frozen stuck. took it home and tore it apart, put some marvel mystery oil down by the turbines and hit the bolt that holds the gear on with my impact gun and wala, turns over smoothly now.
Cant wait to install, need to order weber carb kit and header combo from calmini then I can start with the install. Sami is 86 tintop w/1.3 Will this motor hold up?   :D :) :)

Nah, you don't want that. You want to sell it to me... ...and I guess I'd take that off your hands, to do you a favor! :)

Seriously, the blower application will add a noticable amount of power. Was this one you purchased on a Samurai before? Take care to have the right pully sizes (boost pressure) and you'll probably need to do a timing retard of some kind (MSD comes to mind) to reduce detonation. You'll also want to buy a jet kit for that Weber so you can tune it for your application. The 'stock' size jets should not be appropriate.

There's probably other things too that I'm not thinking of.

Good luck, let us know how it goes. -Eric

Good find

If it was me I would be building an engine specifically for the blower.

- Lower compression fordged pistons
- Shot peened and polished rods
- Port matching, 3 angle grind
- Cam to put the power where I wanted it
- Intercooler
- Mega a Squirt injection with ignition control
- Water Injection for when I wanted to be real silly

Then I could run HUGE boost and have MASSIVE power for which to terrorize more lowly
4X4 types and Ricers...........but thats just me.

If your engine is in good condition and you don't go nuts on the amount of boost you run it will be a fun combo.

Keep the boost to 5 PSI or less, the engine
will hold up to that, also install a O2 gauge
to monitor the fuel mixture (critical) 5 PSI will
give you about 100 HP from a 1.3 engine

can that supercharger be hooked up to a 1.6 8v ?

yes it will, you can bolt it on the 1.3 8v and the 1.6 8v same manifold. cant use it with the 1.6 16v  probably would need an adapter for the manifold. Does anybody know where I can find the double sided pulleys one side of the pulley needs to be  v notched and the other side for the standard belt. Thanks guys

Also where can I get a 5 psi pulley from? Thanks

A cheap way to go here would be to get a wrecker (used) Sidekick alternator they use the ribbed belt and then get the double crank pulley from a Sidekick as well; it's double ribbed belt. The down side is you have to drill a 4-bolt pattern into the pulley vs. the 5-bolt that it has got but that's not too bad. Another bonus, the alternator has a higher amp rating too and it plugs right into the Samurai harness.

-or-

I believe that a Samurai with A/C would have the correct crank pulley for you. I'd suggest calling Hawk Strictly Suzuki, they could help.

Good luck, Eric

Get the pulley from a 90-94 Metro 1300
- Doulble pulley
- Four bolt mount

The pulley on the SC should be the proper
PSI rating, unless it was designed for a 1.6
then it will be a little higher boost

To get the rating of a pulley without running
the engine, you need to know the swept volume
of the SC, multiply by the efficiency, say 70% and
then mutiply by the RPM it is being driven at

YES !!

Another Camden Charged Sammi !!

I've got one on my 1.6 8v and love it, never got it Dyno'd, don't care about that with the car ( on my 1.3 NOS VMax on the other hand .... 8) ). It's the newly found torque that makes the fun part of this mod, crawls up everything from the lightest touch of the throttle !!

I put mine on with the pulleys it came with, put a boostgauge on my dash to monitor it, also oilpressuregauge and biiiig oilpressure light next to that !

Word of advice: don't ask for instructions |removethispart|@ the Camden website, they're just some guys that bought the Camden name and have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. I got the SC without any instructions and couldn't figure out what was supposed to go where and mailed them a piccie of my Camden asking to point what was what. They mailed me back with the pic, pointing to a vacuumnozzle as being a coolant-entrance  :o :o
Luckily Sarge knows about these things and helped a great deal, as did Larry Harris from Izook, who runs a Camden as well. He mailed me loads of pics and drawings of the sumpmod for the oilreturn.
If you mail me I can send them to you, including all the mails with pics, so you can check out what to do.

mail me on max|removethispart|@nitromax.nl and have your mailbox empty ;)

Maybe you've got some pics of it all apart? Would love to see what it actually looks like inside !

I had a Sami with a 1.6 and a Camden supercharger.  It had noticeably more torque, not a V8, but nice.

Before you install it, you might want to call the folks (also Atkins rotary I believe) who have them.  They changed from helical cut gears to straight cut gears which is a more reliable setup that saps less power through the belts.   You could probably upgrade before installing which would be easier I'd bet.

Larry H. is selling his motor and super charger if anyone is interested, I can get you more info.
I'd love to have his set up, but with christmas around the corner $1,300 is a little too steep.  Screaming deal though!!!

Why ?

Put me down for seconds if Zuksofhazzard doesn't take it, I'd just want the S/C as I'd have to ship it to New Zealand $$$$$$ so I'd be happy to donate the motor to some one.

That would be sweet on my 96 Sammy  ;)

Think he's going with a 2.0 Vitara motor, I'll have to ask him...
