Title: track/kick front clips
Post by: mesjr2004 on April 02, 2005, 06:21:51 AM
what is the difference between 2door and 4door fenders grills bumpers etc. ? after moab im kicking around finishing my 4 door , but ive already started a 2 door frame , triangulated 4 link in front , and 3 link in rear and it would be easier to streach the frame to fit the 4 door than remake all the brackets and strip the 4 door frame , the frame looks different on the 4 door in the front and may be able to get around that if i could put 2 door fenders grill etc. on the 4 door body

Not sure, but one thing I do know is that Suzukis have better looking grilles than the Geos. Whether its the new ones or the old ones.

beleave the body mounts are the only diff in the frames, but i'm not 100% on that, better ask Heather.

To be quite honest, I don't really know all the differences between the two. I would think that the front fenders and hood would work, as they look the same in size.

A 2 door grill, will go on a 4 door body, but the mounting holes for the screws/bolts don't line up properly. Zip ties work well for that though. Or even self tapping screws.

The frames between the two are similar, but different. Inner front bumper mounts are different, from what I understand, the two doors have bumper mounts on the inside of the frame rails, but the four doors have them on the outside.

I think the 2 door frame might be narrower than a 4 door's, but I could be wrong. I do know of people that have had issues trying to put a 4 door gas tank into a 2 door kick. The four door gas tank is wider and shorter, and a 2 door tank is narrower and taller.

I'd say if you're already that far into it, you have the knowledge that whatever can be dreamt up, can be accomplished. All you need is imagination (and the right tools ;) )

Just make sure you measure the frame differences.

Never played with a 2 door much.
Doors are bigger, I'd bet that the fenders and front clip could be made to work.

I think it'd be a piece of cake to stretch a 2 door frame to fit a 4 door body, with the right frame of mind.

Most of the body mounts would be in different locations.  I doubt that many of them would line up just right.  (maybe the fronts and rears.)

I think the frame width is the same.  No problems there.
I'd get some 4x4 box tube to remake all of the body mounts.  It'd strengthen them up over the stock mounts.

Where would you stretch it?  Probably in the middle.

You might want find a 4 door gas tank and get it to fit.
Then you'd have to modify the rear cross member.

After all of that work it might have been easier to just relocate the suspension on a 4 door body/chassis.

My 2 bits.

Dang, and here I thought my 2-door and 4-door were the same from the driver's seat forward...

???

The Calmini front truss works on a 2-door OR 4-door, so I think the frame rails are spaced the same.

the calmini front truss bolts to the a-arm pivot bolts right? They are in the same spot not too sure of the frame rails though.

If someone wants to take pics of a 2 door. I can snap some pics of my 4 door front frame area tonight. Gonna have it apart anyways!

i havent measured anything yet but i think the body mounts behind the front wheels and in front of the rear wheels look really close .
iwould streach it between the crossmember in the rear and in front of the body mount in front of the rear wheel

i would abort the 2door frame but ive already got the axles under it , the frame plated in the front at the wrinkle zones ,3/4 plate that is drilled and tapped for a toy ifs box , plated wear my links weld to the frame . new crossmembers in the rear. bumpstops .
i was ready for coilovers .and then a body.

ohwell i needed somthing to do anyway

There are some differences...
Example;
Stock/Factory 2 door front skid plate doesn't fit on the 4 door without modification.
