Hi,
I think I'm ready to buy a Samurai! I originally wanted to buy a Jeep CJ-7 just to use as a weekend driver, for crusing around town. I love the thought of no tops and no doors, kinda like the freedom you'd get on a Harley but a WHOLE lot safer!
My question is in regards to soft doors on a Sammy. Do they sell them, and if so, what mods have to be done to put them on?
I'm trying to go with no doors and no top. If there was only a way to remove that pesky "roll bar" I could really be free!
Thanks for any info you guys can offer! I'm looking to buy a older (86?) Sammy due to the cool rear seats. Thanks!

Soft half-doors are available from Petroworks. A friend actually made his own from 1" box tubing and vinyl from the store, they turned out nice. The targa bar and the roll bar both unbolt from the body.

Are these soft half-doors easily removed? I know that the Jeeps doors just pop-up and out.
The targa bar (assuming that this is the large factory steel bar behind the front seats) can be removed? I'm guessing that this supports the tops when they are on, but is there a way to do without it?
I apologize for such broad questions, I'm completely in the dark when it comes to this. Thanks again!
P.S - Maybe I've been watching too much M.a.s.h on TV. I like the old jeeps on there that had no rollbar or doors. Thats great for cruising the local beach area.

I was confused. The targa bar was not what I was thinking of. I made the mistake of looking at a custom Sammy and assuming it was factory.
I was actually looking at the support that runs up from behind the seats (Actual part of the body). Now, I need to get out my jigsaw!

NO! Please don't cut the body. That piece you're talking about is the Targa bar. It is right behind the doors and unbolts from the body. The roll bar that is inside the vehicle is also un-bolt-able.

From experience.....
I enjoy driving my Samurai without doors and a top. However, it is an entirely different sensation than riding a Harley.
And driving a Samurai with no doors, or rollbar is no safer than riding any motorcycle with proper gear. The best way to survive either is to avoid having an accident.
