Rim Butte, China Hat, Skylight Cave, maybe a hot spring
I have never been disappointed by any of the places that we go but I have heard about these spots and not yet been.

Hey Doug - Let's incorporate some of those spots. Rim Butte is tough that time of year because it's been under snow the last few years.. We'll find some cool stuff though, I've been scouting the area. :)

Will we start off in a campground or in Bend? I have stayed out there a couple of times when we were working in Prineville. Hard to pass up the brewery, when in Bend. Lot's of good food options in Bend too.

Base camp is out near the Fort Rock area. The wife and I usually try to make a pit stop in Bend on the way down or the way back. I agree lots of great places to eat and drink in Bend.

as someone who is new here, is this a base camp and travel out each day and return to base camp, or is it moving camp each night?

Hello There!  When we first started doing this we dig a wagon-train adventure that is to say, we would break camp each day and camp somewhere new each night as we traveled along the land. However, I'd say for the last 10 years or so, we've camped at a single location and did day-trips to and from this spot. We intend to do that again this year. There is a thread in this sub-forum that has a lot of stories from over the years and you can see what to expect from that...  -Eric

The "Event" will start at basecamp near Ft. Rock. Having said that, a lot of the time people will go in groups to Bend a day earlier and enjoy before driving out as a group. This can be preferred if one is unsure of how to get to camp.  (We'll have really good instructions and it's pretty easy, don't worry.... :)  )  -Eric

Ok, it's time to put some form to this event... For people that are thinking about going, what in Central Oregon would you like to do? I can throw a poll if we think that'd help. Doug threw out some good suggestions of " Rim Butte, China Hat, Skylight Cave, maybe a hot spring " anything else on people's mind?

So happy you are going to be there... I hope you can bring the Sidekick so I can drool over the rack. :)

Will you let the MVC crew know at the Wallery's meeting if that happens this week?

I just called Cowboy Dinner Tree.  They have lots of availability on Friday and a fair amount of availability Saturday night.  If that becomes part of the plan, we will need to reserve ahead of time.

Hey Adventure team!  To accommodate those that would like to do the Cowboy Dinner Tree on Saturday, we'll loop through the Freemont forest / Winter Rim area and drop down into the place for dinner. We'll shoot for being there at 6p but please realize that things can go sideways in the hills and we could be delayed. So, if you want to eat at the Cowboy Dinner tree on Saturday... please make a reservation for your party after that time. At this point, I don't think I'll be doing it but I do know there are several that will be. We'll regroup at camp Saturday evening and continue with the shenanigans.

Friday will be the traditional Chili Pot Luck around the camp fire. Please bring a can of chili and a side to share...

More info coming soon.

Thanks, Eric

After a mere 11 months, I finally managed to edit the footage from last year's fall classic trip.
If you're new to this, the video will give you a good idea of what to expect:

Hey Justin!  I know Eric's still working out the details...we were considering a Saturday night visit to Cowboy Dinner Tree, but it sounds like they may already be full.  I can't speak for others, but I will probably pass on doing any sit-down dining on this trip.  We will see an itinerary post from Eric soon with more details.  You can check out the itinerary from previous years to get a general idea for what we will be doing each day.
Sometimes we do a chili or stew feed (everybody brings a can of stew/chili and we throw it all in one big pot).  Sometimes part of the crew has dinner at the Fort Rock Diner.  There will also be a stop for supplies and fuel at some point at Christmas Valley, so you can re-stock if you're short on food for the weekend.

Hey Justin, if you've contacted Eric you should be receiving (or have already received) an email with coordinates for camp.  Shoot me a message if you need more details and I will make up a map for you.  It's pretty easy to find, just a 20 minute drive from Fort Rock.

I will be expecting ... A BEAVER MOON!!
November 19: Beaver Moon
The Micro Full Moon occurs when the Moon is closest to its apogee. This month's Full Moon is also known as a Beaver Moon, after beavers that build their dams around this time of year.

Great time out there, and a big thank you to all who helped make it happen!

I’d like to order up one of those fancy diesel air heaters we saw in use.  Are any of them better than the others?  Any info is appreciated
