Title: rear diff gear ratios
Post by: 3xl7sofar on April 01, 2017, 05:06:18 PM
Ok guys I got the new engine in and found we had a problem with the rear diff. I need to know the gear ratios on a dec 2003 grand vitara 4wd 2.5l without anit lock and my engine donor car jan 2001 xl.7 2.7l with anti lock. hopefully i can just throw the whole rear axle in. if not i guess i can do both front and rear. Any advice specs? or help? Thanks

As far as I know the ratios are different, and the entire axle assembly is also different.

A 2.5 with auto transmission is 4.875:1, the 2.7 XL-7 is I believe 5.125:1, the XL-7 uses a different axle, with a larger diff and some sort of CV joint on the drive shaft, rear springs I think are also larger.  The front diff should be a cast iron unit that will swap over possibly requiring the third member mount to be swapped as well.

my 2001 xl-7 was aluminum front diff, and the rear driveshaft is 3 bolts not four
