Title: First post! Introductions and question.
Post by: Traxster on November 19, 2016, 03:54:26 PM
Hi all, I am a fellow tracker enthusiast who is going to enjoy a forum of knowledgeable people. I love Trackers and I have question regarding mine. Suppose I have a complete Tracker, running an driving, with an 8 valve engine. I also have a COMPLETE 16v engine. If I was gonna do a rebuild, could I buy 16v pistons, and put the entire top end of the 16v engine onto the 8v block. I can't see a reason I couldn't but I've been wrong numerous times b4. Figured it best to ask the professionals 😂

I can't answer the question, although, like you, I believe it should be possible - what I want to make sure you realize you also need to change the electrics & wiring.

I've also read you would have to change speedos and everything. Think it'd be easier to just swap the whole motor tho I'd really like to avoid that.

Whether you swap half the motor or the whole motor, the electricals etc. will still need to be swapped - the two engines use different injection systems - the 8V had throttle body (or single point) injection, the 16V is port injection.

Different fuel pumps as well.

Your not getting that much swapping to the 16v, 5 lbs of torque and 10 hp.  If you want to do an engine swap I would look at finding a 2.0.  :D
