Title: 16V conversion 5th gear switch wiring help
Post by: one mile on November 07, 2016, 08:41:57 AM
I just finished a 16V conversion in my daughters '87 Samurai . I now need to know where to hook up the 5th gear switch wire I found hanging under Samurai. I have 2 wires going into one. I am at work and don't remember the colors off hand.  Any constructive input welcome. Thanks, Tim

You should check with whomever did your wiring, you may not need to hook it up.  You may need to trace it back from the transmission, here is what it looks like.

I do not remember a 5th gear switch (but there it is), I would rather think it is a reverse switch for backup lights.

If the 16V had a 5 speed behind it, it might have 5th gear switch wiring, it might not (some trackick trannys had a 5th gear switch, some didn't). If it does, hook the samurai tranny 5th gear switch wiring up to it. If it doesn't, don't worry about hooking it up. All the 5th gear switch does is cut the EGR operation, when the tranny is shifted into 5th...supposedly to help get a little better MPG.
