Title: Another Samurai gas mileage question. This ones different.
Post by: fixed blade on August 29, 2012, 05:43:20 PM
I think something is wrong with my samurai, please help.   I'm fairly new to the Zuki world.   I've only owned one since march this year.   Well It's hunting season hear in utah, and I took my 88 samurai with 31-10.5's in the mountains last month scouting.   It was idling way to high, and need the rings replaced as it smoked like crazy.   I went 120 miles that weekned off road, and that thing got 22.5 mpg.   I couldn't believe how good of gas mileage it got.   I thought it was a fluke.   well I replaced the rings and honed it out, and adjusted the Idle.   I was in the mountains for 9 days last week, and went 440 miles.   a lot of it in 4 low, as I was in some of the crappiest trails out there.   That son of a bitch got 23.5 mpg.    What's wrong with it.   This cant be good.  Please help 8)

What kind of Gas mileage are y'all gettin?

With those big tires and stock gearing, that's actually pretty fair mileage. Actually not bad off roading.

I never figure gas mileage, when I offroad.  But I usually can only go about 100 miles, before it is getting down towards empty.  So I am guessing maybe 15.  And that is with an EFI 1.3 samurai.

Samurais get great gas mileage just putting around offroad. For example, during the recent Colorado adventure run, I never used more than half a tank of gas each day. Days where the Samurai was running 8+ hours.  That included driving about 60 miles to/from the trailhead as well.

My old SJ-410 could go 24 hours of trail wheeling on a single tank of gas.  The Tracker with an Auto, not so much.  :)
