Hi guys I did a search and could find anything on this. My 88 samurai is leaking pretty bad from the front axle, where it meets the wheel. It looks like some weird ball joint, I've never seen this on another vehicle. How hard is it to fix this, and what do I need to do to fix it?
Thanks in Advance.
Jason.

Gotta pull that puppy apart and put a BIG seal in there, where the front Birfield pivots.

Thanks, Is it a big pain? or is it pretty easy? One more question. Is that differential oil that's leaking? or is there a seperate oil res.?

It's an easy fix. Get a FSM and follow the directions. Here's the Napa part number for the seal and felts.
Napa part # 2118590

The big seal is not the problem (or at least not the only problem). The reason there is oil leaking out, is because the axle seal inside the bell on the end of the axle housing is leaking. It is letting gear oil into the bell and it is leaking past the big seal on the backside of the knuckle.
So to fix all the problems, you will need to replace the axle seal and the large knuckle seal.

Might as well just get a full knuckle rebuild kit and put new kingpin bearings in there while you are at it.

I'd wait until you get the knuckle tore apart before you order new kingpin bearings. There is no reason to replace them, if they are in good condition, IMO.
