Have a '97 Tracker, and I wondered what you all's experiences are with bigger tires and slightly wider wheels with no lift? I might one day do something like the OME 1.5-inch suspension lift, but nothing really serious. I would like to increase the tire size somewhat. So, what's the biggest tire you can use with no lift?
-
Biggest tire you can get is usually 1-2 tire sizes larger than the original set.
-
I know some one who has like a 93 sidekick and she is running 30x9.5 but there isnt much room i dont think.
-
235/75R15 seams to be a good tire for a stocker.
-
if some one has pics of a stocker with 235s, please post or send them tom me. thanks
-
you can fit 30/9.5x15's will onlu rub on chassis at full lock.
-
i have 235 75 15's on my tracker there perfect for having no lift they rub a tiny bit at full left turn (but i never turn that tight any way so it dont matter)
i think you could easily go to the 30/9.5x15's they would rub a little more though but i dont think it would be a big problem
any way if you want picts of my tires email me at rad_to_the_max|removethispart|@hotmail.com
and ill send them along to you (ive been having a hell of a time trying to get picts hosted and dont have the skill required to use car domain)
-
I ran 30x9.50 generic A/T's with no problems at all.
Later,
Bill

I run 235/75/15 (29") MT/R's with OME suspension, and w/o body lift. They fit with no rubbing at all.

The setup is very comfortable, and supports the car very well.
However, it's a bit soft at the tail if you're into some hard wheelin', or carrying a heavy wight.

I was thinking of purchasing 215/70R/15s but when I asked a tire store guy about it he told me that it would throw my speedometer off.
Is this true?
He also said that it would rub on the frame and wheel wells, but I know that can't be because all of you say it won't.
Funny enough he drives a Grand Vitara...you'd thnk he know, but anyways...

YES ANY TIME YOU CHANGE YOUR TIRE SIZE IT CHANGES YOUR SPEEDO THE BIGGER THE TIRE CHANGE THE BIGGER THE SPEEDO CHANGE .
-
Is that a bad thing? I mean I can pretty much tell how fast I am going with out looking at the speedometer anyhow. Is there a way to correct that?
-
just a qeution: how come when i asked no one told me?? but u guys told this person??
-
MUST HAVE OVER LOOKED IT .... I TRY TO READ EVERY SINGLE POST IN THIS FORUM . BUT SOME TIMES ITS WITH A 1 YEAR OLD ON MY LAP LIKE NOW. OR THE WIFE OVER MY SHOULDER ETC. SORRY I MISSED IT NOTHING PERSONAL ;)

yes...not sure completely how though if its the same as an explorer u just switch out the speedo gear in the tranny..every tooth u take out is like 2% or something
my info is off..this is just to get u started

Ouch that's crazy, there's NO WAY I'm messing with my transmission. LOL, thanks for the info though.

CHANGING THE GEARING ALSO HELPS CORRECT YOUR SPEEEDO . NOT SURE AT WHAT RATE THOUGHT  :-/

I don't even know where the trans-speedo gear is on my '90 (haven't had to look for it yet fortunately), but I changed the speedo gear a couple of times on a TH350. It was a piece of cake (maybe 10 minutes) on that trans. The gears were available at any Chevy dealer too. It should just be a plastic gear where the end of the speedo cable goes into the trans. For the TH350 it was in its own housing, but like I said, I haven't even looked at the trans end of the Tracker's speedo cable.
Also, there are calculators on the Web that will give you any speedo/gear change due to changing the overall diameter of the tire, but I think it's just inverse of that ratio. That is, increase the tire size by 10%, decrease the speed on the speedo 10% -- could be wrong there.
Post what you decide to go with; I'm gonna need to get rid of my 205s one of these days!

I run 30x9.5x15" on my Tracker. All I have is spring spacers, stock front struts, and Pro-Comp rear shocks.

When I fixed my speedo I just went to a speedo shop and they put a gear reducer box on the speedo cable. But once I stuck the 5:83s in w/32" tires the speedo was was off agian , Removed gear reducer box and the speedo was correct again so that was a waste of $.
-
I also run 30X9.50s with only coil spacers. Some rubbing and the speedo is off about 5mph.

I always like to know for sure of my speed. Keeps the locals at bay. This way when they ask how fast your going you can say for sure.
"Don't you know? You pulled me over"

I WISH OUR TRUCKS LOOKED THAT GOOD HERE IN THE NORTH EAST ;D
-
My Tracker was born and raised in Michigan just like me. I bought it in 96 from the second owner. I used to wash it alot, especially in the winter to keep the salt off. There's sign of her age, look at the bottom of the drivers side door where rust was trying to start. I don't have to worry about that here in AZ now ;D

Nice ride, dude. :)
-
Ok, so, I mean if you get bigger tires, just slightly, I just want to get one or two sizes bigger, my speedo will change, BUT it won't hurt the truck in anyway right? ???
-
Nope, Bigger tires will do nothing else except for the speedo. You just learn what the speeds are.
-
Ok, that's a relief. Thanks man. (http://www.zukiworld.com/public_html/YaBBImages/thumbup.gif)

.....and you wont be able to burn out as easily. ;)
-
I have an "03 Tracker what's the largest tire theat will fit w/o mods?
-
It does change your speedo, but you can buy electronic modules that compensate for the difference. I have seen several websites that have calculators to help you calculate the difference and you can just compensate while driving. I don't remember the website, but it shouldn't be hard to find.
-
The general idea that, I have seen is that 235/75R15 is the biggest that you can fit without modification
