Anybody pull their heater out of the vehicle......Took it for its first drive yesterday, heavy rain, cold, no heat....... fogged up windshield and leaks.... about 15 min into the drive the water started coming under the top and dripping off the sun visors, the windshield fogged up as well as the side windows. While testing the other positions on the heater controls the fan worked great, when in the defrost position nothing, the fan is still running but nothing is coming out, as for the heat, I think the thermostat is stuck open or the previous owner removed it. I looked in my Chiltons manual and it shows a break down of the heater but nothing about its removal. Any ideas........

I like this guy, he is just going to rip out the heater!

Sorry about that, its a sammy. I want to take it out--repair--reinstall--here in Idaho it is imperative that your heater works or you carry a lot of towels and wear a snow mobile suit.

Here's one that you don't have to pull the dash(haven't tried this one).

td57 just what I was looking for. It seems to me that the door to the def is not opening, I have all sorts of air to all other openings, the a/c also works great, so, something is either in the way or its not connected. Now that I know where it is located in the box, I might be able to fix with out removal.

Don't forget on the SJ series only the floor and defrost give you any heat. So it could be you just need to use the link td57 posted or take a look at the wires and make sure it is opening the flap properly.

Drone 637 Mine is a JX model... does that make a difference??

I used the link that td57 gave, and it made all the difference in the world. Its amazing how much stuff ends up down there. I also wired the door for the defrost shut, and just leave it there(should get enough heat from the defrosters anyway).

The JX is a trim level - stickers, minor accessories, etc. Mechanically, All Samurais of a particular model year (excepting '88 which was a crazy time...) are the same.

Pull the dash and clean all the crap out of the heater Assembly. It's the only way to get it all....
Then once your heater is working well.
Build one of these:

It will keep the crap from returning, solves the Over night drips, increaserees the air flow to your heater ....Boxcar...
