Besides being relatively cheap ( JC Whitney flares ) there flexable enough to take a good rubbing against a tree or rock without breaking or cracking. Keeps the mud where it belongs too, under the Truck.

Got two sets of these off Ebay for $79.00 shipped. Never saw them again.

My 98' JX Sidekick came with the plastic body side clading so any commercially available flair is not really compatible, even the universal fit stuff. BUT we do travel on roads in PA alot and if the tires are not covered the troopers will write you a ticket in a heart beat, while here in NY they are a bit more lenient.
What I came up with in order to fit the letter of the law and not be too obnoxious looking was clear flairs. I had several strips of the clear flexible plastic(it is approx 1/4" thick) that is used in factory internal doorways to block airflow etc. I cut the 12" wide strip into 4 pieces 3" wide and 44" long. I used the existing body clading screws to attach these "flairs" to the wheel well arch. Being clear they are no wheres near as ugly as say attaching black plastic in the same manner, and can be easily overlooked by a trooper on a revenue generation binge trying to fill his quota. The last trooper to pull me over was rather peeved at the clear "flairs" and insinuated they were installed specifically to trick the troopers, I asked him how following the law was tricking a cop?

They are just looking to write any ticket they can ! Out here in oregon they always pick on you for mud flaps if they dont cover the tire. The clear ones sounds like a good idea and wont get tore up in the brush .

I don't paticularly like the look of flares and mudflaps, but I do appreciate how they work. I've seen some of the EURO version flares and they do look like they were designed for the vehicle, which they were, not just thrown on and they really do look good. I've also seen the same ones cracked and broken from a light rub against a tree. I think they go for arounbd $300 a set plus shipping from the EU, so add another hunnert bucks. They can be had on ebay uk.
I took advantage of a few hours of sunshine yesterday and ran some trails out in the Pine Barrens. After a pretty wet winter here mud and water, in places 3/4 feet or deeper were the order of the day. Saw a Jheeper get surprized by how deep a seemingly innocent little water crossing could get. I didn't stop to take pics, but turned around and got on my way while his buddies got ready to pull him out. The water was only tire deep too.
I just took these pics to demonstrate the effectiveness of flares coupled with mudflaps. Notice the dried mud/sand collected under the fender and on the mudflap. Notice the lack of mud on the side of the truck. The mudflaps are also inexpensive, reletively thin universal cut to fit plastic from Pep Boys. Because their so flexable they just slide over rocks and trees and don't break. You can also just give em a little kick and the dirt will mostly fall off.

Not trying to change the subject or anything buuuuttttt here in NC they don't care about mud flaps or flares to cover the tires, You can lift as high as you want, run any size (street legal) tire you want, etc. All you need is functioning brake/signal lights really and headlights if you're gonna drive at night. Personally I think the bushwacker style flares are the bee's knees and I hate mud flaps.. but back to the subject, I think it would be cool if someone who had cut their front fenders to fit bigger tires found a way to run a stock wrangler flare, think about the way the fenders are shaped.

I also think the Bushwacker flares look the best. Don't think they're available for trackicks though.

I bought the 1" rubber flairs with wire inner support. Cut to fit type. To get the flair to angle down & closer to the body style I made multiple cuts & bent inner fender. Drilled holes into inner lip of fender & attached flair with rivets/washers.

Jeep YJ flares, four rears, little trimming and it works great.

That yr. Tracker has a round fender & the Sami's are not. Harder to find a good option. X90 even worse.

I did A LOT of reading threads and looking at pictures especially of how bentparts and ToyYoda did theirs and combined the ideas into my own design to incorporate a new front fender lining to replace the old black plastic liner, permanently mounted front and rear mudflaps, and an set of oversized rear mud flaps that are quick-detachable.
Universal flares (like jcwhitney style) but the name brand is Pacer, they were a set of four for a mini truck, 1-3/4" wide, heavy duty, reinforced with metal wire.
The below thread has all my pictures detailing how I extended the rear edge of the rear flares down past the body since I had removed the oem bumpers.
Had them on for over a year and a half now and they look good, they're flexible, and the car stays clean. That was my purpose
