Okay folks, I am new here even though I have had my 87 Samurai for about 10 years. I am a retired police mechanic and normally do not have any problems figuring out problems but this one has me stumped.
I went to Smog my Samurai and it failed with a reading of 1.40% CO at 2500 rpm. I rebuilt the carb, replaced the air filter, spark plugs and PCV and checked the timing. It runs like a stripped ape but now the CO readings at 2500 rpm is above 8%.
I guess my question to you folks that have knowledge of these things is: What carburetor should I replace it with? I do a lot of off-roading but also run it around town and on the freeways. I don't want to spend a lot of $$$ but I need it to pass smog tests.
HELP!!!

Where are you located? Here in Cali the stock carb is the only carb that is smog legal.

I am located in one of the two cities in NV that require smog.
