Title: alternator upgrade
Post by: P Funk on October 21, 2011, 10:27:37 PM
I have seen a few different kits online to upgrade to the 100(ish) amp delco 10si/12si alternator.  Is this the best option, or is there a factory suzuki alternator that would be a straight up bolt in?  I want to do some electrical upgrades such as offroad lights and maybe a subwoofer and the stock alternator doesn't seem up to the task.  Any "bright" ideas?

I have a winch lights and a sub with a 200w amp my stock samurai alternator was not up to the task under light use of the winch and lights at night  so i upgraded to a ac delco 3342201 can also be found as 7294-3  its a stock alt for a 84' camaro with a 94 amp alt  much better and it cheep alot cheeper than a 100amp was almost $50 cheeper

Did you have to use aftermarket brakets or was it more or less a bolt in?

Does the original plug still work?

no you will have to cut the plug or splice in  i have seen people use male spade ends pluged in the the stock plug.   My plug had a wire brake off long before i upgraded to the delco

I went with the kit from Petroworks and it's awesome. It took minutes to put in and runs everything no problem. I run offroad 100w lights (4), Winch, Stereo, Inverter, 2 flood lights (rear 55w) and never have a problem. They supply the proper plug and bracket. If you don't want to get the alt thru them they will let you know what one to get from your local parts place or even a rebuild one. They're a great company to go through and easy to talk to. Hope this helps

The TT bracket works awesome, they include the pigtail and instructions on the correct way to hook it up.

Make sure that you ALSO procure the proper alternator bolt mount sleeve, otherwise the alternator can cock in it's mount after awhile of running.

How long ago did you buy yours?  I bought my TT bracket from Low Range Off Road about 2 mos. ago and didn't get a pig tail.  Well made bracket though.

I got it about 2 months ago as well, I am almost 100% positive the pigtail was included, but I could have been hallucinating as well...LOL...but i dont remember ever having one around the garage or snagging one at the auto parts store either.....a mystery right there.....LOL
