I just bought a 1990 2 Door Tracker at the start of September and it is almost ready for hunting season. It started out as a university girls vehicle but I have it looking more the part of an off road hunting vehicle now. Before: and I didn't pay what the tag says.(http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x339/Horseman1977/IMG_0458.jpg)Now:(http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x339/Horseman1977/IMG_0516.jpg)
I plan on getting some 235/75 r 15 mud tires this week. It also needs an alignment since I just installed the Hoepker's 2" coil spacers in it. The paint job was about 10 cans of Krylon Olive Drab plus primer. It took me about 8 hours to get all the decals off, and a bunch more time to wash, sand, rewash and strip off all the parts before painting. I am thinking of trying the Federal Couragia mud tires. They are about the cheapest I can find around here. I also have a JD2 bender at work and I plan on getting some tube bumpers made up real soon too. It is my daily driver and so far I quite like it. I have about 23 kms of back roads to get to work. It can be a real adventure just getting down our roads in the winter and spring so the mud tires will come in handy just to get to work.

I have steel rims that were sandblasted and I have painted them olive drab too. They will go on when it gets tires.
-
You'll like the couragia mt. They are an excellent mud tire. Especially considering the price.
-
Ordered the Federal couragia MT tires today and will be here in a couple days. I will post pictures when they come in. Also need to take it in for an alignment since I lifted it. I put in camber bolts but don't want to wreck new tires. I can start elk hunting on Monday so it should be ready for then. Also sewing seat covers out of olive drab canvas. Don't laugh but I have to do my own sewing since my wife never learned how to sew and I've been sewing leather chaps and moccasins since I was a kid.

No shame in being self sufficient.

Back ages ago when I was in high school we had to take one shop and one home ec class. We would purchase the old frostline kits and make our own tents, sleeping bags and clothing. Then in the Navy I would spend alot of off duty time in the para-riggers shop repairing clothing, flight suits and making garment bags, overnight bags and alot of custom alterations and creating.
The more skills you have the better off you will be, though this does run counter to what todays society deems appropriate

With doing new covers for the seat, you may want to also add some additional foam to the seat. I just recently purchased some foam for a seat pad while flying sailplanes/gliders. The foam is a tempure type of foam and really increases sitting comfort for longer drives etc without alot of bulk. http://www.cumulus-soaring.com/e-a-r.htm (http://www.cumulus-soaring.com/e-a-r.htm)
I use the 1" thick multi layer blue and pink for my flying seat cushion and just ordered another piece for the sidekick drivers seat. I have also found several seat cover replacements that sound and looks like they will provide a decent fit for the sewing challanged and will try one of them(though I probably will alter them, LOL)

When i reupholstered my motorcycle seat we used a gel insert, you could probably use the foam mentioned above and or use the gel for areas that may be painful, lower back, butt.

More pictures. Got the new tires today, but they put the white lettering out even though I asked for black out, so I am going to get that changed later this week when I get time. They also put 50lbs of air in the tires, so I need to let out some air to get it closer to the 23psi it calls for on my door jam.(http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x339/Horseman1977/IMG_0532.jpg)(http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x339/Horseman1977/IMG_0533.jpg) Got one seat cover done too, and a rear storage bag for the back door.(http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x339/Horseman1977/IMG_0525.jpg)(http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x339/Horseman1977/IMG_0524.jpg)

Nice looking tread pattern. How are they on the road?
-
I have only driven about 23kms on tires so far. They were actually quiet on the highway and seemed good on the gravel except for the new tires throwing the occasional rock. I lost a bit of power on the highway going to the bigger tire size. I am happy with the look of 235/75 r 15, glad I didn't go bigger to 31's. Will have to order another new one for my spare now too. I can't find a decent used 235 tire for a spare. They are an odd size now that most vehicles have bigger rims these days.

I have Dayton timberline mt's on my Sami and they are quiet on the highway, but awesome in the mud! I heard mine are a lot like the tires u have

Your build looks awesome. You sure changed the look and capability of the little truck.

I have always been in opposition to "society" its the only way to live, we live outside the city limits in the country, i hunt, fish, cook most everything from stratch, we grow our own vegetables and have animals on our property that we use for food supply.
Being self sufficient is the only way to live. The government was originally put in place to protect the citizens from outside threats, not supply people and dictate how to live our lives.
(Sensitive subject for me)

Looking great, looks like it will be ready to go for our May run out by Rocky.

First Mud, just getting to they highway from our house requires 4x4 when it rains. I may need some mud flaps for this thing. The new tires throw rocks and mud.(http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x339/Horseman1977/IMG_0538.jpg)(http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x339/Horseman1977/IMG_0537.jpg)

Good looking tracker, what did you have to give for the tires?
-
The tires were $150/each Canadian. plus install and taxes. There were still the cheapest tires I could find around my area. I am still waiting for the JD2 bender to arrive so I can start building bumpers for it. Then I will have more pictures to post.

I really like this intelligent build you have going. Give it a ARB in the rear and call it perfect.

Where did you find that cargo thing that goes over your tailgate? I would buy one in a heartbeat for my sammi

I'm pretty sure that he made that himself based on the post in this thread. Looks like a great idea too.

I saw some pictures online of someone who had something similar and then I just sewed it myself from some canvas I had. There is even a sleeve in behind the pockets so I can slide in a rifle, fishing rods, or window scraper. I put some grommets in the top and used some self tapping screws to attach it to the tail gate. I looked at some different camping bags, like the kind that hang from the sides of army cots, but decided to just make one myself. My tail gate doesn't have a lock in it which I guess makes sense being a soft top, but I didn't like how easy it would be for someone to get in there and steal stuff so I got a jeep hood latch and have it mounted at the bottom of the tail gate, so I have to either take out the back window or reach over the back seats from inside to get the tail gate open once it is fastened. Nice Mods, you'll like this rig.
-
A storage bag like that would be perfect to hold a set of 4 tire chains, it would be alot quieter and easier than a old 20mm ammo can, with the individual pockets each chain can be keep seperate from the rest for easy handling!
-
Awesome idea, love the sleeve in the back for a rifle or shotgun.
My sammi is a soft top as well and doesn't have a lockable tailgate either.
-
Rig looks good ! I like people that think outside of the box . Gave me a couple of ideas ! thanks !
