Hey people I have a 94 tracker 4wd that wines like crazy. I have found a tranny from a 2wd, can I take my transfer case off mine and put on the other one to make it 4wd?
-
Yes, you just need to remove the tail housing on the 2WD
and replace it with the other trans parts

Doesn't work. We've discussed this before.
The only way a 2wd tranny can be "converted" to a 4wd one is if the 2wd has the dummy "tcase" on the rear of it.
A true 2wd tranny has an output shaft that is 3.5" longer overall than the 4wd tranny output shaft.

OK, I did this once, must of got lucky and had the dummy case on it
I have only done it once, so I just think they should all be this way :-[

Thanks guys....

So the answer is "maybe" post pics of your old and new transmissions,
nice and close, OR you can hawkeye them yourself, if you can see where
the old and new cases look like the body of the trans ends and they look
the same, as well as I guess the output shaft on both are the same length
then it might work.
The one I did change over was a 92 GEO Tracker, it belonged to Eric Yoke
a ZW member here, he had bought all of the 4x4 parts for it and I did just
swap over the parts from the 4x4 to the old 2WD trans, so if the circumstances
are right, it can be done
