Title: Chase Trucks and Support
Post by: Drone637 on July 01, 2011, 02:27:59 PM
Does anyone want to trade cell numbers and such for support reasons?  We should have a chase truck available for Trouble Racing but it's a long race and being able to count on support from other teams would be nice.  :)

Yeah here is my number. 7146141177 not sure AT&T has much service out there so was thinking of picking up some throw away phones...also think we should all run FRS radios too.. At minimum we can use them to radio pits. I am not sure what if any chase/pit support I will be able to bring. I am down for a common Suzuki pit crew.  I did enquire about the propit service and here is what they said:

Subject: Re: USA 500 ProPits

Jason, goodafternoon and glad to hear from you. We are really looking forward to the 500, hope you guys are too. I explain Pro Pit Briefly, but feel free to ask any questions.

Pro Pit is basically a for hire pit service, aimed at helping out any racer out there that doesn't have enough friends and family to come and provide pit support. Our rig is basically a shop on wheels, carrying tools, fabrication equipment, and as many parts as we can pack in. Any racer that signs up with us, $25 per event, signup at tech, is entitled to our help, parts and litterally anything we can do to fix you and get you back in the race. We can handle the fuel, carry out spare tires and parts and get you a sandwich if necessary. In short, we can be a huge help keeping you in the race, and we're the cheapest insurance out there. Even if you have enough people to pit for you, it's still a good idea to sign up with us, just because of the what if factor.

We do sign ups at tech, and any fuel or spare parts that you want us to take on race day needs to be delivered to us at tech. Then after the race, we do a pit exchange, which is when you need to pick back up all your spares and cans. This way we haul what you need to the pit area and back.

Any questions give a hollar, thanks. Mike Hardesty.

Wow! that sounds like a sweet deal. I have a guy coming down to help me out, but I am sure he would help any of us. I may just do that pro pit thing also.

Be careful with the hired pits.  While they can be very helpful, they can also make it a huge headache to get your stuff back.  I dont have any experience with pro pits, but baja pits screwed me out of about $300 in race fuel once.  My cell is 503-550-0629. So far, my wife is my pit crew.  She usually is able to drum up a few guys from other teams to help pour gas or change a tire.

I am going to be there and would love to offer help to anyone.  I've already talked to Greg and Dave about helping them.  I'm fairly certain I will be driving my sidekick down so I would be able to be a rescue car also.  I'm looking into a raido that I could keep in the pit area or in my car, does anyone have any info on what I should get?

I'm talkin the miss into going. If we do I'll have a 96 Dodge cummins 2wd. Not much for offroad, but does great for towing. And I'll voneteer my services for any team that might need a hand. I know my way around a toolbox pretty good.

Greg has asked me to only pit for only him so I guess that I need to retract my last post.

That's RIGHT! hes my master trail fix guy! If someone needs something badly im sure anyone will help out. I just think it's better for a team to have a dedicated person. I would hate to see a situation where 2 or more cars are broke down in different places on the track and you'd have to choose who to help.

We'll have to get the numbers sorted out, but if we get a list of who all is going down I'll send out pm's with my cell.  Not big on posting it on-line for other people to see.  To many stalkers.  :D

I'll talk with BRD HNTR and find out what we can do for radios.  Are the FRS handhelds any good?

I'm a 99% yes on this. Will have room for 2-3 riders (96 Dodge extended cab) and whatever gear you want to heap in the back of the truck. I have no problem driving the whole distance or will take the help if I get it. So if any team wants the help, let me know. or else I'll just whore myself out when we cross the state line. :)

Hey guys. I just saw that your class will be racing with us this weekend. I've been racing VORRA for over 14 years. I've been around it since I was 2. As far as needing help in the pits, all you have to do is ask. Vorra is a family friendly place and every one has always been more than willing to help. I will be at Pit 2 and 3 all day. So if you do need help just look for a 2 wheel drive newer tacoma. As far as pro pit. I have used them at every desert race I have raced. They are professional and courteous. And they do make a good sandwich if need be. For 20-30 bucks its worth it. They can figure out anything. If you guys have any questions from a racers side feel free to ask.

Hey thanks for signing up and offering to help out... I'm very excited to get down there and take it all in! The racer, as usual, is really not ready but what the heck?

We'll definitely look for you. What's your name in real life? It'd be a little awkward to walk up to a truck with #95 on the window and say "Hey are you #89?"

:)

To make it extra akward, I would say "hey are you 69?" real loud.

My name is Tristan. As a racer I can say no matter how early I start prepping , it's never really ready. I can't wait! It should be a great race.

Tristan
one more thing that came up today.. In CA you can't have fuel cans without the push to open type nozzles on them.. Can you offer any insight as to VORRA pits and fuel cans?

Dump cans are legal . We use 5 gallon and 11 gallon fuel jugs from summit. They are also called utility jugs. One thing BLM looks for is spill kits. Either kitty litter or sand and usually filling on top of a tarp or carpet.
I will be on 151.775 or locos mocos. Feel free to hit me up. The station is used by a few of the teams that I will be helping.
