I am not sure if my 86 sami steering rod has been fooled with or not. The passenger side tie-rod does not un screw like the drivers side. This is the one that is in the worst condition and needing replacement. Is this a part that must be pressed in/out?
This truck has some type of aftermarket high steer kit I assume. It looks like a 2-3" pitman drop. Also there is another steering arm mounted above the knuckle with 2 holes. The drag rod no longer mounts to the stabalizer bar. Whats strange is the drag is mounted to this aftermarket bracket but the stabalizer bar is not and is still mounted on the bottom of the factory steering arm.
Another thing i relized after looking in Haynes is this truck is missing the stabilizer bar.
Long story short i am either going to build a new steering system with aftermarket parts and weld myself. Or, I would rather just pop 2 tie-rods on and be able to drive it sooner.

Pictures might be very helpful - especially if there is an aftermarket kit, or something someone cobbled togther

Here is a good shot. The drag link looks aftermarket and the tie-rod ends are def. larger than the factory stablilizer bar:

I measured a 3" drop pitman arm:

Factory stabilizer arm tie-rod shot (this is what i am not fimilliar with rebuilding)

Again, i dont know much history on this truck. What i do know is it does have extended brake lines, spring over axle perches (but springs are below the axles), missing stabailizer bar, 1" rear end drive shaft spacer, 8" shackles front/rear. I get the feeling this guy used to sit much higher and maybe somone stole/swapped parts before the sold it. It currently has 31" TSL's

It looks like you have one half of a high-steer kit, I run a similar setup. You do have a steering stablizer, it's just mounted off of the steering box instead of being on the axle.
Is this a SJ-410 or a Samurai?
I would probably cut off the extra length on those shackles. They are just in your way. :) If you can run 31" tires as is you are probably running with 4-6" of lift on just your springs.

Looks like the RRO kit. I have the same thing on one of my Samurais. I would buy the 2nd stage of the kit that puts the tie rod above the springs as well.

Thanks for the information!
