A diesel engine?
There's a video on YouTube showing a guy with a blue diesel engined Samurai driving around a quarry with just the roof & snorkel out of the water - if he had tried it with a gasolene engine it would have died the minute the ignition got wet.
On a more serious note - you do need to keep the electrics dry, and one way to do it is with an electric fan that you can switch off before entering the water - if the fan just dips the blades into the water, they lift the water and throw it all over the engine bay - another reason to stop the fan before entering water is that it can act as a propellor, and when it attempts to pull the vehicle through the water, the blades flex, sometimes far enough that they can cut or damage the radiator core and cause leaks.

Use Dielectric grease on ALL electrical connections, including spark plug wires. And have a tow strap already connected to your rig :laugh:

Look at and waterproof any place that can be opened. Lengthen all breather tubes above the water line or inclose them. Dielectric grease works great. I also spray all of the plug wires, cap, electric connections with spray silcone sealant. I rubber silcone the distributor cap down. My rear end breather tube runs up into the inside of the body by the gas filler tube and tank vent. My front end tube runs up an through the firewall into the cab. I tape my dipstick down so it can't come loose. Over flow tank breathers are capped shut for that day. air breather is siliconed shut and the intake tube is sealed and draws air in from the under the dash for that day.

He asked..... :o But I will say this.... round here in my neck of the woods this stuff will save yer money pocket. There is alot muddin here. Unfortunitly not everybody drives Sammy's or Kick's... etc. There are some holes out there that look tame but end up being like Farley's Quarry. It's the fault of them durn Ford guys with them big ol 40's that keep gettin stuck where we like to play..... :laugh:

Easy there, Trigger. Some of us have more than just 'zuks in the herd. WE happen to have a few of the afore mentioned trucks, and use them for eveything BUT mall crawling. That is handled by the Cherokee.

Just some good fun intended.... I'm a Bow Tie Guy by nature so teasin the Ferd Guys is justa reality. I have owned a ton of 4wd's and I would hafta say my favorite was an 84 F150.
The meat of the message was them big ol trucks can make swimmin fer our lil rigs an instant reality. For a real thrill run down some of the Indiana loggin roads at night. 1st one to make the headlights go under wins the OH CRAP award....... :laugh:

Yeah, I know. Just the normal "my brand can..." stuff. Oh, as far as the logging roads up there in Indy, heck, son you ought to try some of the creek crossings down here in Kentuck. 89 Bronco on 38s' and the WHOLE freakin' thing disappeared up to the roofline 'cause some clown on 52s' thought it would be fun to dig in the sand right where everybody goes across. STUPID F'ker. Owes me a full rebuild on the Bronco when I catch him/her/it.

Dielectric grease is a better option than any other ideas. I have not tried it on my own but I am sure it will work.

Nobody has mentioned the rest of the drivetrain really, other than the axle vents, so........ a GOOD quality lithium/marine grease does wonders for the bearings, u-joints, slip joints in the driveshafts, etc, rasing the vents for the tranny/xcase up to at least the firewall, doing something about the "drain tubes" in the headlights, and NOT turning the mothers ON when they are under ( cracked lens, anyone? ) using Di-electric grease to "backfill" the connectors on the wiring for lights, sensors, etc. AND figuring out a way to water proof the ECU.

and keep in mind if you drop in to some cold water with a vehicle thats up to operating temp your diffsgear boxes,ujoints,etc. can pull in water around seals. so plan on a enormous amount of servicing and fluid flushes.
back in the full-size truck days, we primarily wheeled in deep water/mud and coastal wetlands (earth-muffin greenies piss-off). I would count on fluid flushes and a full tube of grease after every run. (gets damn old and spendy)
the best tube-o-grease I ever found was Lucas "red and tacky"

I have a "Aftermath De Watering Kit" in my "Timber Cruiser" for them "Dat Hole was never Dat Dam Deep Before" adventures.
And you can look COOL, Like this happens all the time, and this is how the real "Off Roaders" deal with it!!!
It is a MT beer case that becomes your oil drain pan.
With it is:
a new fuel filter, 1 qt Air Brake System Dryer to get the water out of your gas;
5 qts oil & and a new oil filter;
A New Air Filter;
3 heavy duty garbage bags; 2 are to double line the beer case to catch the oil & water you drain out of your engine,
once you have drained it, "goose neck" the doubled up bags and seal/tie off with duck-tape. Leave the oil in the bags- in the beer case and TAKE IT WITH YOU!!
The last garbage bag is for the old filters, rags and if you have to............ SHOVEL UP ANY CONTAMINATED SOIL and put in this bag also. Please do not leave evidence behind to RUIN OUR TRAIL Privileges!!
Then get rid of this stuff at the same place that is going to change your Tranny, Transfer case, and Axle fluids!

I have never had much FUN,....Standing on the seat steering with your Knees,
Even in "The Land of Clear Blue Waters" !!
But for Shits & Giggles, I do have a short life raft paddle tied off to the roll cage!!
Maybe some "Boat Numbers" on your fenders by the side clearance lights?!! (Which you can change to Green & Red)
