PORTLAND, OR - Most of the time here at Zukiworld H.Q., we plan our trips out months in advance and try to pack as much fun as possible into each and every moment to maximize the time we have out in the great out doors and this pays off well. However, sometimes it is just as advantageous to pick up the phone, call a couple buddies, and head for the hills. Saturday was that kind of day. The weather we have been having here in the Pacific Northwest this winter has been brutal as it has been in many areas of the world. The end result is that a lot of the days are being spent indoors and winter's dreary grip is even more soul crushing than usual.

Looks like a great time. I remember many days wandering around the Detroit Lake/Opal Creek areas in very similar weather and scenery. I spent my Saturday leading 20 rock crawling enthusiasts through some beautiful red rock country bathed in sunshine and 50+ degree temps. But, I still miss the Northwest's lust forests.
Ahhhhh! Thanks for the memories! ;D

Great article Eric! I had a really good time! :) And getting to winch you was a rare opportunity - glad it went smoothly. That pic doesn't show the severity of the situation.
Definitely lots of roads & trails up there to go back and explore... maybe this Spring? :)

Yeah... I haven't really winched in a long while... Hmmm... I guess I'm not trying hard enough, right? :) I'm thinking about going up to this area next weekend. What say you?
Also, if there are any locals that'd like to chime in and give up their secret spot, it'd be appreciated and I promise I won't tell anyone. I wheeled the area (Mt. Hood to Detroit Lake - ish) in question 10 to 15 years ago and a lot has changed since then.. I seen from Warn's facebook page that they had an employee snow run basically in the same area just higher in elevation... Maybe someone that went on that ride could show us some trails?
Say Gil, you should come up for another visit and bring your Sidekick.

I live in the Scotts Mills area and do a lot of wheeling up above there. It looked like one of the rigs had a garmin on the dash. I try to save all of my tracks when i go up wheeling maybe we swap tracks some day i sure you would find some interesting trips.
