Title: Impossible shifting
Post by: afbond03 on November 17, 2010, 02:38:43 PM
Hello, just picked up an 86 tin top. Having a really hard time shifting gears. I haven't owned a manual in awhile and never had a clutch go out. So could the clutch be at the end of it's life and this be the cause of needing to shift with both hands? The friction zone isn't engaged until the last 1" of pedal is out.
Also already ordered a shifter sheet and bolt.

Thanks,
Bo

I would check out the clutch adjustment first before replacing the whole thing but it does sound like it may need to be replaced anyway it could be though that the last owner liked it that way

Could be that the cable is not adjusted properly.  If you do a search on here, you should be able to find the procedure for adjusting it correctly.
