does anyone have any knowledge on these chips sold on ebay that plug into your ecm,is there really any gains?or worth the money?
-
The only " chips " that are any good are the ones you eat. All those gimmicky power adders are a total load of crap.
-
i kinda thought so,ive just installed a high flow cat and 2inch pipe with no muffler, its a 96 with 16v 1.6 where would i go next for some performance gains, cam maybe?
-
There's always forced induction. ;)
-
Basically it is a 22-cent resistor that "tricks" the ECU to run lean.
I have seen ebay units that sell for $69...
-
ive been looking at the turbo option, is there a complete bolt on set up available, not sure about fabbing up manifolds and such but sure would like the extra punch >:D
-
No bolt on kits I'm aware of, a few of us have built our own though. Some have also done the V6 Suzuki swap with good results , either way is a bunch of work and not cheap, especially if you don't fab up your own parts. The extra power sure is worth the effort though, especially when you pull onto a freeway on ramp from a dead stop, or pull out and actually pass a slower vehicle. ;D
-
well i guess i better get my hands on some parts and get busy,im sure ill be in for some pointers, thanks for the input ;D

Get a T6, an intercooler from a WRX or a Corrado, a massive fuel pump, custom pipes, and then crank that puppy up to 24 lbs and hold on. May as well run a 50 shot too.
Ok, seriously, if you go FI the first thing you need to do is beef up your bottom end.
-
Not necessarily z3ro, you can run modest amounts of boost ( 5/7 lbs) with very good results on mostly stock equipment if you have a 16v engine. A small turbo that spools quickly, decent intercooler, a WELL BUILT manifold running 5/6 lbs will net you about 40/50 more hp. More than enough to perk up your ride. I've been running this setup going on 3 years and 40k miles with no problems or added stress to the engine. I've recently added a H2o/alcohol injection system to mine ( home built of course ) and now run closer to stock timing and a bit more boost with lower egt's. It can and has been done successfully. You just have to do the work. ;)
-
ok,ive got the 16v motor, next im headed to pick and pull,is there any specific units i should be looking at for my turbo? i.e. saab volvo,vw subaru.thunderbird turbo coupe? ive also got a tune shop down the road maybe check to see what they may have?although id rather use my roughneck skills and do it hybrid stlye! ahh tuner shops out,not an option, goin to the junk yard now :D

Yup I posted on here sometime within the last year asking the same thing, because I thought it was a gimmick too and couldn't understand why they could be sold for profit...and everyone that responded pretty much said the same thing. I've seen pictures of them that people took apart and it's just an empty black plastic box with nothing in it but a little resistor that costs, yup, less than a dollar.
Also, they use the same ad for their ebay listings, that say 50+ hp gain...but that number is probably the optimum gain from another car...seriously, you're not going to get 50hp out of an engine that puts out 85hp stock by just adding a "power chip." I still can't believe people sell these things.
-
Everyone knows the power isn't in the chip, it's in the stickers
that you put on your ride ;)
Any long time members should remember the sticker thread

well made it back from the pick n pull i only found one turbo unit on a 89 volvo it was bad but i think i can rebuild it with the right parts i can get manifold turbo and everything for50 bucks its a start i guess ;)
-
There are ome good write up's on doing the turbo thing here in the forum, be sure to check them out. Happy boosting!
Oh, and Wild, I stuck one of those 3R racing stickers on mine and got 30 more HP! ( with a chip)
-
When I added a Zukiworld sticker to my
windshield I got about 50% more traction ;)
-
when i put my zukiworld sticker on i got 50% more ATTRACTION  (chicks dig it!!)
-
Chicks Dig Body Damage! 8)
-
Yeah, they may, but they seem to shy away from my damaged body! Middle age sucks!
-
As I put it when someone told me I wouldn't pick up chicks in my Tracker, I said that if they liked my Tracker then they must be a keeper lol
-
i thought it was just my tracker with my zukiworld banner that was calling them in then i remembered.....my little sticker in the rear window :-[
-
This is no sh*t, I saw that same bumper sticker on a car ( suburu forester) the other day! It was next to a bumper sticker that said " I'm so Gay I can't drive straight. " Drivin by a strange looking lesbian. I'm not bs'ing, she was PROUD!
-
i have to admit im a lesbian trapped in a mans body but i guess we must have went to the same DISTURBED/A7X concert tour ???
-

Idk man, trackers ARE pretty gay. Suzuki marketed them to women, hence the gay purple/pink interiors...unless maybe they were trying for the flaming homosexual market.
I have seen some manly looking track/kicks, but not too many. Hard body lines are where its at.
-
They only seem "gay" to someone with confused sexuality >:D and I only hard body lines when stimulated. One more thing, my wife loves my Tracker, the girlfriend does too! ;D
-
I do have to tell you,i drive about 100 miles a day to my job,my f150 was eating me alive on fuel so....i opted to buy a 96 tracker(stock) needless to say my job is working in the oil patch on a drilling rig,ok roughneck pulling in with a stock tracker hmm...oh yeah i took a sh*t load of bashing ::) so i proceeded lifting and big lug tires, fat loud exhuast, big kc lights, working on turbo now...redemption is slow but certian
