ThoughtI would make a new bumper since the brackets on the stock one were broke and I had it held on with a tie wrap,I can see now I have made it a total of about 4" to long and will set about shorting it soon. I made it out of 2x6 3/8 tubeing and welded on my tow brackets and reciever hitch and also made caps for the ends so I could put my chain in it. Me and my copilot will cut it down a little and put some paint on it and cvall it done ;)

nice I like it. wish I had access to a welder or knew someone that would do it super cheap for me if I got the material.

LOL buy me a welder and I'll build you one for free ;D
-
Not too shabby. When I read the part about you welding on the tabs for a towbar, I couldn't help but wonder " Why is he posting a picture of a bumper for a Heep?" on here... I am not used to having to use a towbar, but all of the Heeper crew around here seems to love to tow their rides for some reason... Sorry, it was what came to mind.
-
LOL Its a heep with 250,000 mile on it that has the habit of breaking down when ever it likes, the clutch is on its last leg right now and it knocks a little in the morning when it cold so I know the tow bar will get pressed into service before long. ;D
-
I use a reconfigured vw beetle towbar only to tow behind my motorhome, it's works great because you can only get so far into the bush with the MH and the zuki gets you everywhere else, especialy hunting.

thats cool, here is one that i recently made for a guy

I like your new bumper.... it looks to be somewhat similar to a lil red rig in my driveway. Nice job!

here are some more pics of my homemade bumpers on my samurai
-
man thats some good skill. wish I had skills for making stuff like that or even the tools and space. my landlord is very anal about anybody having anything in our carports other than our vehicles or even people working on their vehicles, shes even complained when I had my old hard top off and sitting behind my samurai for 2 hours while I worked on it.

Man, you need to move!

if I could find a nice 2 bedroom for 650 near salt lake I would but everything near that is VERY ghetto and the wife says no. The place is REALLY nice for 650 just a crappy uptight landlord. Oh well when I graduate with my 2 year next december we plan to move to Idaho to go to school unless I get lucky and can move back to the great northwest but thats dreaming. I grew up in tillamook oregon so thats really where I want to go with the MANY trails there.
-
Ahhhhh, Tillamook, one fine aircraft museum and excellent chesse.
-
ICECREAM TOO! Ive been having withdrawals and then just heard that winco carries it.

Could you share what size metal you used for that one? I weld pretty well and my father is a retired metal fabricator. I think we could make one like this pretty easy. The only thing we would have to out source is getting the tubing bent.
-
:) hey tillamook boy, where did you live in the land of cheese ,trees and mud to your knees
-
a few places but my parents live up fawcett creek right now with 3 of my siblings. I spent most of my time living up on ? cant remember the name but everyone called it kottre hill up behind les schwab. Why?

heres a rear one im working on for ideas. its super easy and fun to do.
and another one that a friend build (the white kick)
-
:) got any better pics of that front bumper ? on the white tracker
-
here's one when it was on the red kick. not much better.
-
that rear bumper I think would look mighty nice on my samurai.
-
:) SWEET BUMPERS ! I HAVEN'T DETERMEND WHICH WAY I AM GOING YET LIKE YOUR PLATE BUMPER OR GUT BEND UP SOME TUBE. HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK YOUR BUMPERS WEIGH.
-
-the front bumper was built by someone else and needs a few more angles IMO and dont know about the weigh on it.
-the rear one should be reasonably light due to the 1/8" material. (i kept weight in ming) and I dont think it will be much (if any) heavier than that of the TrailTough bumper on the front.
-I think I am going to build a matching one for the front some day so I can "tuck" it up allot closer to the body with a better approach angle that the low slung current TrailTough one. I just have to keep good intercooler flow.

I have too much overhang on my front bumper, it didn't bend on the rocks, but kept my tires off them. For rock crawling approach angle (or descent angle) is everything.
Jluck is right, Keep It Close To The Body.
