I'm interested in the consequences of running to different gear ratio cuz I'm to lazy to do my front diff.
-
Broken axles, twisted drive shaft, scrubbing the tires to death, broken
T-case chain, Did I miss anything???

when you change the rear ring and pinion gears then just remove the front driveshaft....this when you are tempted to throw it in 4wd you won't do any/all of the above listed damage.... no problems then.
when you do the front ring and pinion gears then install the front driveshaft again.
-
T-case will leak all the oil out if you remove the drive shaft, you will have
to leave the slip yoke part in and suspend the front of the shaft to keep
the oil in

Wow none of those sound good guess I need to find a stock diff to fit in my kick. Ne one gotta 4.30 or my rear straight un bolt then bolt
-
didn't realize we were talking about a 'kick....
that's one of my dislikes of this site, maybe it is just me but how the HECK do you tell what people are talking about, Sami or Kick ??????
-
I knew because I read the other posts, also a Samurai isn't hard to
change the diff, the Kick you got to drop the axle to swap the diff

Ditto! I think a separate section is in order....

That, OR at the start of a post/thread we all say model maybe even the year since even Sami's have a few different things over the years like 88 yokes are different then 88.5 yokes and so on.

There are model specific sections, although they aren't well used at present.

I just replaced the front diff in my 91 kick. Im no expert mechanic and did it in about an hour. Found the new diff at a junk yard. Just need to find out what year has the gears you need. But i would suggest just finding one with the front and rear with 5.12. If your gonna do the work might as well change the gears.
