Title: 2 KICKS INTO 1
Post by: ldodge92 on September 13, 2010, 06:29:22 PM
Alright guys. Im pretty new at this but got addicted fast. I have 2 kicks, one 1.6 8v auto stock the other 1.3 5 speed 3 in calmini susp lift and lockers in the rear.

Got a new front end for one and rear end for the other now things are going to hell. The one with everything on it is falling apart. Thinking about taking everything off it and putting on the 1.6 auto.

Before i dive into to much anyone have any input.

Going to be swapping a 3 in calmini susp lift, front diff and rear axle.

One is 5 speed and the other auto. ( 512 gears and 462 gears).
Will they match up fine?

Anything else i should do while in the middle of this?

Thanks for the help
Dub

That Kick with the 1.3 will have 5.62 gears in it, they are rare
and you will want to keep those, put the 1.6 and auto trans
with them and you should be able to run 32 or 33 inch tires

LIKE IT!  Diffs may be different.  Put one end front, then back in the air, mark the drive line with chock spin the wheel one rotation to figure out what gearing you have in each of the axles.  One of the common things to do is to use the gearing from a stick behind an auto to give you some mechanical advantage.  If I was there I would be saying for sure the 1.6 with auto is the way to go ( I drive a 1.6 with manual).

Calmini lift is a good thing, usually very complete.  The only thing to check is the A-arm for the rear diff.  If it is not there then talk to Jeff.

Gearing match up is fine as long as both front and rear are the same.

What kind of lockers are we talking?  ARB?  mini spool? limited slip? stock or aftermarket?

Another question? Should the 3 in calmini susp lift ride rough. That thing will be the crap out of you going through a field.

Its designed to run with a winch bumper and offset rims, without those its pretty harsh, although with them it is still a bit stiff.

What does the winch bumper do? Can there be anyhting fab to fix that?

Offset rims? Different backspacing?

It holds a winch.  :P    In all seriousness it weights quite a bit more then the stock front bumper.  Even more if you have a winch in it.  The extra weight allows the springs to compress a bit more giving you a softer ride.

Offset rims will give you a wider ride and a bit more stability on the road, but they may also cause rubbing issues on the back side of your fender.  I'll let people who run the larger tires chime in on what off-set they recommend for the Trackers with various tire sizes.

Switch out the struts for some OME.. it will make it ride MUCH better.. plus make sure you air down good before hitting the trail.. any Kick with much over 10PSI in the tires will beat you to death off road....  If it's a new lift.. run the hell out of it for a little while.. hard running, mild jumping, flex it out alot... and it will smooth out after break in..

Mild jumping only - heavy jumping can bend the strut towers and throw the alignment out.
