Title: Best modification you have done.
Post by: 96Kicker on August 23, 2010, 04:23:50 PM
If you have done a modification to your first gen track/kick and in your opinion its the best, list it here.
Lets see anything from mild to wild including interior, exterior, lift kits, lowering kits, axles motors, bumpers etc.
So if you have done a mod lets see it and explain why you feel its the best mod!

I'm going to say that it is a toss up as to which is better: the lower control arm brace that I welded in the same day that I got my '90 Tracker, or the 2.5 exhuast with the Cherry Bomb Turbo style muffler. One keeps it from spreading its' legs too far and the other lets it breath better.

Love my 1.9 turbo diesel conversion. Spool, twinstick and new tires to evaluate next! >:D

i would say some 235/75r15's first mod i did to my kick, they fit with no lift, they allow alot more aggressive tires to be fitted and the little amount of lift definitely helps them get down the trails surprisingly easily

Great! for me its the bumpers and skid plates, Nothing like good ole protection and custom bumpers to give it that custom look.

Brushguard, because it allowed me to put something different up front without building a front bumper.  :)

Drone have any pictures of your brush guard?

I wanted to go with something different on the front then stock.  This did eat up the entire day in the shop building a mounting system and cutting it down to fit correctly.  Looking back I would have gladly just paid someone for a working brush guard, only you can't buy them anywhere.  The next step is to put a factor skid plate under the front end then rebuild the lower mounts to connect to the skid plate so the lower arms don't hang down quite so low.

For me, Jeff's 2" lift with diff and strut spacer, and 30x9.5 M/Ts.  Limited slip I found in the boneyard is a close second.

You found a limited slip in a junk yard?  Nice score!  :)

It was in the axle I replaced my old one with after my wreck, ;D  out of a '93 4-door kick JLX,  makes a huge difference,  doesn't really spin only one unless I'm hangin a wheel and even then the hangin wheel turns slow, as opposes to tryin th hit a hundred miles an hour while the other just sits there.

Does jeff sell the diff spacer, too?  Tell me more about this, is it an extra that he sells for additional $, or where did you get that?

If jeff doesn't Mud Child sells a diff spacer.

Yup, Jeff sells the diff spacer, it was kind of an upgrade to his kit when I bought it.   He may have made it a standard part due to the improvement it makes.  It's made of the same material as the coil spacers and is just as strong.

ok, Jeff! Weigh in here!  I have been dealing with Mud Child who is also a good dude, but am having troubles getting him paid with that stinking country difference thing.  I just want an a-arm spacer for the rear cus mine is maxed at this point and in need of some correction.  I could use a piece of 2x4 square tubing I have in the shop, but if you guys have already corrected for angles, then I want yours.  Time is money!  Not that my time is worth much.

Sorry I'm late . The diff spacer without bolts is $25 total. I would get bolts for it but I do not have my Sidekick anymore to see what size is needed. Most auto parts stores have them though.

Dang no kidding!  I didn't know you made that, jeff, it looks nice just like the rest of your stuff.
So what's the special price for the lift with that spacer?  ;)

It's hard to have a best modification when they just keep making your ride better.  The rock sliders were my first modification and have saved me the most.

Of course I could change my mind when I get the computers straightened out, and hood fits.

i would say my best mods were the Samurai Solid axle swap and 33x13.5 LTBs.... front suspension is Suzuki Samurai springs w/ International scout leaves added for re-arch, rear is V8 Grand cherokee springs and 1.5" spacers w/ relocated lower spring perches.... all totalling10" of lift. then my 33x13.5R15 Super Swamper LTB's oh yeah front rims are custom backspacing. I cut the centers out and rewelded them futher back.

Tube Bumpers, skid rails on the sides, armor almost the full lenth underneath,8000 lb winch with winch rope ,no cable , hitch front and rear, for the winch, pull pal, for when there is no trees or anchor points, Roof rack with camo bag, shovel and pick.  snorkle, not so much for water as keep the intake out of the dust. we are real dusty here in the so. cal. desert.

Probably my Anvil/ARB/5.83 diffs...or my 4.24:1 transfer case gear set.  No, the snorkel.  Or maybe the lift and bumpers.  Ok, Ok, it must have been the purple mirrors.

The best mod has been the Altered Ego 4.5 suspension lift as it kicks the wheelbase out 3 inches, far more stable at speed.

So far, upgrading to 235s and 15x7s has been the best mod I've made. However, 2" BDS Suspension lift and replacement Bestop are right up there!

And it requires new bumpers.  One to mount it on and a similar one in back so they match.  ;)
