OK
so Ive got an 87 Canadian long wheel base, and this is the vehicle that I'm building up.
My question is regarding gear ratios. Is there certain years or locations that the samurai came with different rear end ratios?
If so what were they and where were they found.
I'm headed for a set of 32" and would still like to driven almost daily.
If you have an opinon please share.
Thank You
Zukwrench :D
Eric, this would be a good common question to add!

All 86-95 USA/canada SWB samurais came with 3.727 gears. I believe the LWB samurais came with 3.92s. You should be able to use trackick gears in your LWB, since it uses the same axles as a SWB, doesn't it? The trackick ratios available are.....4.30, 4.62, 5.12, 5.38 and 5.62.....with 4.62 and 5.12 being the most common.

any ideas which trackers have what ratios?

5 speed 16 valve - 5.12
5 speed 8 vavle 2 door - 5.12
5 speed 8 vavle 4 door - 5.38
5 speed 89 1.3L - 5.62
3 speed 2 door 16v Automatic - 4.30
4 speed 2 door 8v Automatic - 4.62
All other Automatics - 5.12
I might be off on the automatics though.

only trackick front thirds will fit samurai axle housings (both front and rear). most trackick thirds you will find will have 22 spline sidegears....which match the samurai front axleshafts. there are trackick front thirds that have 26 spline sidegears....which match the samurai rear axleshafts.

yes, you can take trackick front ring and pinions and they will fit on both front and rear samurai carriers.

You can also pick up a 'Hybrid Rear' that uses the rear center section from a Tracker and the tubes from a Samurai so you can run the larger third member.
If your going to put the 5.12 gears in a Samurai carrier you will need to pick up a retaining can, Trial Tough makes one but you can get them through most of the advertisers on this sight.
