Went to a friends place in New Jersey to go off roading with the Tracker after the snow storm. I just got it on the road this past Monday.
1st time getting stuck... there was a rut on the left of the road that I drove into which ended up leading to a ditch and I couldn't get much traction and high centered slightly on the plowed snow. Had to dig out by hand which took nearly 30 mins. Ended up losing 4wd a few miles later as the ft. rt. halfshaft came out of the differential because the snap ring failed. Didn't source a new snap ring till Friday which 1 NAPA had after trying 3 others as well as 8 Advance, 6 AutoZone and a few pep boys. Halfshaft splines were "repaired" with a file and everything went together good.

Went through many pits like this. This one was one of the last. Later on we came to one and it was about 3/4" from coming over the rocker/door sills into the floor so I backed out instead of continuing.

Looks great; I have to get down there!
Is this in Wharton, or someplace else?

It's in Wharton. I found a clearing on my gps and drove to it after being at Apple Pie Hill and there ended up being newer pines growing instead of a clearing. They were in the 8' tall range. There were very few tracks in that area and 1 dually track but it was from last snow.
-
is this wharton down by atlantic city or up by rockaway?
-
Yeah, it's the Wharton state forest between Rt 206 and Batso.
-
Nice pictures! Makes me wish that I had my tin-top running. Otherwise I would have went there myself.
-
wish i lived down around there and not northern nj

Where are you in NNJ?
-
Hey I live right by there, looks like fun, how do I get there?
-
Just drive south down Rt. 206, once you start to see " State Forest" signs nailed to the trees, make any left turn on any dirt road and go from there. Make sure you have gas, a cell phone and gps in case you get lost!
Maybe it's time we organize a ZUKI run again, for sometime in March. We can all meet up at the Ranger Station in Atsion on RT 206, or maybe Batsto State Park. Bring mapping and gps gear and we can post detailed trail info?
-
...I'll be trailering; is there someplace to drop tow rig w/o hassle/problems?
Which weekend are you thinking, Mike?

I would love to, please include me.

If your towing ecoast, there's a large parking area right at the ranger station at Atsion. Still haven't thought of a date yet. What does everybody else think?
-
...the only weekend ng for me is 20/21; so 27/28?
-
Sounds good, although that is almost 6 weeks from now and anything can happen. Will pencil it in my calender.
-
So, 27 or 28, tentative, correct?
(we've been down this road before!)
-
Yeah, sounds good.

i live in jefferson near rockaway/denville.

Ooh  getting a meet going? I'd possibly tag along but IDK if I can crash at my buddys place anymore. His dads got something up his a** (he's got OCD to the extreme you see on TV shows). Last time when I messed up the splines on the passenger axle and my tracker was apart in their driveway for 38 hrs, he about shit himself from a lil grease on my hands and he insisted that he had to keep cleaning the house.
Might have to skip this one but maybe later this year.

Bummer. Was hoping you'd be able to come along. Wife and I were out doing maintenance on our cashes ( We do GPS Geo casheing) yesterday, and way back there the snow was still pretty deep and great fun. We were making the first tracks on some of the lesser known trails and it was a blast.

There were a few times where I was lucky to go 5mph from plowing snow with the control arms. Had to back up a few times to get a running start in my tracks and even had to dig out at one time. Snow really gets packed in around the halfshafts and up in the bay.
Last time I was down to go on the trails was back in spring. You ever enter Irics Causeway Road at the intersection of Patty Bowker and Chatsworth Rd. Thats a tight trail/road to get into (S bend that is banked and a gully) that is mostly used by quads and dirtbikes. I got back in with the Tracker when it was stock and there were a few sections where it was 2" on each side of the mirror to clear trees and times where low growth was scraping both sides.

That's the trail we went on the first night after the big snow. I went out with the local 4x4 club a friend of mine belongs to. My Tracker was also draggin' through the deep stuff, but I was maybe 5th in line of a bunch of Jeeps, all lifted big and with at least 35 inch tires. The funny thing is, the leader was driving a BONE STOCK Rubicon, breaking trail for everyone and only got stuck a couple times and had to be winched out (of course I was one of only two guys with a winch so I did a lot of pulling that night.) He made it up through that gully and to the top of the hill after about 4 trys, I decided to go next and it took me about 5 trys to make it up. After that it turned into a big klusterf#*k, almost everyone else getting stuck or sliding backwards into the trees. A lot of winching going on, and at one point it took two winches on opposite sides of the hill to pull a Toy pickup on 35's off a tree he'd slid sideways and backwards into. I'd never been on that trail before and would like to try it in the dry. It's tight, but perfect for a trackick or sammy. Most of the bigger rigs ( Jeeps and toys) were banging through the branches like the fire brigades, the Tracker squeezed through pretty easily most of the time with no real damage to the paint. That sounds like one to add to the schedule.

Great looking shots, thanks for posting the pics!
-
dang im from nj and never been there, heard of it, gotta get there soon looks good
-
OK, really need to get the Jersey/PA/DE Zooks together this spring. Get your rigs ready!
-
def do, sounds like a good idea
-
So far were lookin' at the weekend of the 27th/28th of March for the first Spring ride. How about that for everyone?
-
seems good roughly what time is everyone meeting up?
-
Well, the earlier the better I think. I'd like to be moving along by no later than 10:00 am. That should give everyone plenty of time to get there and get ready. It's a whole day of trailing, so bring a lunch, drinks etc. Make sure your rig is ready, and prepared too.
-
I would go, but the zuk has a blown motor and no clutch, so I'm out for quite a while.
-
Let's do this again.
-
...or Raush ?
count me in; pick a weekend.
-
Rousch huh? Could do that, how about the weekend of Nov 12th ?
-

-
Rousch huh? Could do that, how about the weekend of Nov 12th ?

I'm a newer guy but would love to join. I would love to see how well my Tracker performs. Completely stock suspension and wheels with Some Safari tires, think I will be OK?
-
absolutely; there are usually 'bypasses' if the section is too rough for you...(at Rausch)
-
OK John, lets start a new post.
