Title: Dana 44's or Toyotas ?
Post by: ChiefRocka on September 18, 2009, 03:50:43 AM

I already have the offset D44's...but could pick up some Yotas too....Which ones would you prefer ?

Am I correct in assuming the 44's are stronger ?? (comparing in stock form)

Is it a full width 44?

It all depends on what you want to do with the rig....how big of tires do you plan on running, do you want the tires to be hung out there?

I prefer Toyota axles, the parts for them are quite a bit cheaper, and easy to come by.

If you got the D44's already, your good to go man. Is your front a high pinion? What gearing does it have? Any clue on the width?

I picked them up a long time ago...they are the pass. side offseted Wagoneer axles.

They are not too wide..but thought they would be cool.

Opinions ?

Lots of people use waggy 44s, if you have the axles I would run them.
There is a good aftermarket support for them.

What is the plan for your rig? Any ideas yet?

Hey while your at it just pick up a D60 and D70.

LOL

Really depends on what your skill level is, Mechanically and off-road and what you want to accomplish. If you have never swapped axles, Toy axles are fine, I have a 87 JX and i have been on toy axles for 2 yrs, But i have been "in it" for 8 yrs now.

No matter what axles your swapping to, your going to have to move the perches in and set the pinion angle.

Did anyone mention the 4 piston front calipers on some of the Yota axles?  That is whats selling me on the yotas for my mine.

IMHO the waggys stop better. Besides there are some new axle shafts coming out that are CV style! I have been putting off buying alloys for the front because of all the horror stories about warranties and failures etc. Check out https://www.rcvperformance.com/store/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=67&osCsid=d6d5c057e1311cd26e4ae143ac4836d0

The same company that makes longfields axles for the yotas. I'm looking forward to purchasing these :D

I also like the offset diff better for rockcrawling and the low center of gravity.

Dana has been taken over by Zuul.  Their products are now wicked evil.  There is no Dana only Zuul.
