I have the tiny stock 1.3 carb. I found a good deal for 4.88 already set in thirds but was initially thinking 5.29 . Would I let down if I settled with the 4.88s?

What is your goals for the vehicle and your driving style?

Trails, Rock Crawling, Muddin', pre-running, etc... Highway, trailer queen, Freeway?

mainly a trail truck but still want to be able to cruise at 55 if possible with the 1.3. would i be better off just spending the money and getting 5.29s

As in my earlier post, I'd suggest at least the 5.29. You're going to need to spin that 1.3 to get 55 on the highway with 35" tires.
