Title: I'm an A-Hole
Post by: Ira88888 on September 14, 2009, 05:42:22 PM
I couldn't afford the good stuff now right now, and my old top had to IMMEDIATELY go in the garbage.

95 Tracker top, $200, from Rampage, and I bought it from this guy on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360182076869&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT#ht_7739wt_1133

Well, you can imagine my surprise when the zipper pull on the passenger window wasn't there. Simply wasn't installed. So no way to secure the window except via the velcro and plastic molding.

To continue, the guy doesn't know how to send me a replacement..he's requesting that I send the entire top back...but exactly how do you do that when it's the only top you have?

I am really, really peed-off now. He has 24 units where he can pull that window out and send to me, I would send him the bad one back when I get the new one, and he can go for his credit from Rampage.

I'm waiting to hear his latest reply reply to my email just sent, but I may have to go on the warpath right now. This is ridiculous.

Well, that happens once and a while on ebay, makes you see how the pacific rimmers can make a product so cheap, no quality control, among other factors lol.  Ive learned anyway, sometimes the product can be good quality, just got a bad one, so hopefully you get one thats complete next time.  Hows the rest of it? fit? stitching and such?  Ive got some no name top(im assuming, there is no brand anywhere) that came with my sammy when I bought it, and it works well, but Its an endless cycle of putting new snaps on it, until all the original pos ones fall off.

It's not a good sign that the pics on the auction are all of 89-94 tops.  His auction claims to have a money back guarantee.  Have you talked to him about that?  Aside from the zipper issue how does the quality of the top appear otherwise?  I need a new top for my 92.

It's not a GREAT top, but for $200, it's all I could afford now. Stitching is nothing spectacular, but you gotta remember that living in South Florida, I'm not worried about snow collapsing the roof.

Since I first posted, the seller basically said, "I don't know what to do."

I said, "Give me your contacts at Rampage (the manufacturer), and I'll communicate the problem."

I emailed Rampage, and they just sent me a 27-step process for return authorizations, including sending them BACK the bad window before I get a replacement. I emailed them back explaining that I'm not a TOTAL retard, that I actually need this window because of something called "rain," and told them that  I will be spreading the word of Rampage "Quality."

I know it's a very touchy subject to post about sellers/vendors on forums such as this, but this is freaking nuts. I'm not complaining about a scratch on the plastic:

I'm seeking a resolution for a piece of garbage window they sent me with no zipper pull.

For 5 bucks in Ft. Lauderdale, you're lucky to get a Hot Dog and  Coke.

....and people bitch about me selling a used factory top for more than what they can buy a brand new top off of ebay for.  I tell them you get what you pay for.  And that just proves it.
Hopefully you can get the issue resolved, one way or another.

I don't have an issue that you sell for more than a generic top off ebay, but you sell for more than a Bestop which is who makes the factory tops.

I really wasn't directing that comment at anyone in particuliar.  ;)

And most tops I have seen on ebay are not Bestop tops.  And it seems most of the ones that are Bestops on there are the fabric/denim material....which is not as good as the vinyl material tops, IMO.

Matter of fact, I just checked ebay and there was 1 Bestop that was cheaper (by $13) than what I have a used factory Bestop priced at.  And sure enough, it was a denim top, not a vinyl one.

My Besttop replacement top (vinyl too) was no where near as good a quality as the original factory top it replaced.  They may be manufactured by the same company, even in the same location but that does not mean they have the same quality standards to meet.

Myself . I would go down and  get a price from adultery shop as to how much it would cost to put in a good zipper .

Not sure that will help with his top situation but it may make him feel better for awhile.

I tried looking up "adultery shop" in the yellow pages.....couldn't find anything.  I have seen some similar listings under "adult" in the services section of craigslist....but I didn't really see anything in there that would fix his top issue. :P

OK

Zippers come in standard sizes; usually #5, #8, and #10.
Post a pic of what's broken and I'll send you a pull free... show both the begining and the end of the zipper.

Are there times in your life when you're ALLOWED to be an a-hole?

That you did something only an a-hole would do, but you didn't notice it until days later?

And that you had the option of never replying to your original thread, so nobody would know what a big a-hole you are?

I had that option, but chose to ignore it and show all of you what an a-hole I am:

The zipper pull was in the TOP, not the WINDOW, and it started from upper right, not lower left (passenger side window). I spoke with Maria from Rampage yesterday, she was a SWEETHEART, and she told me to take a picture of the lower left and send. When I went to do it today, I saw the freaking pull in the opposite corner of the TOP.

So, am I allowed to change my screen name here to a-hole? Because if anyone deserves it, I sure
as hell do.

It takes a lot of guts to admit when you've been wrong. I have a lot of respect for you making the follow up post.

Peace

So do you now recommend the top?  I need a top and that price point is where I want to be.  Does it fit decently and snap to the rear support bar easily.   Does the sunroof flip easily?  Does it seem to be airtight above the windows?  I may get back to you in a month or two to see  how it is holding up.

Oh I got one for you, I once made a purchase to a website, paid, got the wrong items, they didnt have the right ones, I told them to just give me the money back, they paid to ship the items back, I then waited and waited, nothing, so then I finally checked paypal, and it showed what I thought was the money refunded from them, then taken back out of my account, after a couple weeks of getting kinda mean with them, telling them, I dont care what your database says, I sent them a screenshot of my papyal account, it shows the money going in, then coming right back out, Then one day, after talking to someone on the phone from the company, getting kinda rude with her (not personally rude, not her fault) I looked at my account again, and realized the money had been refunded, and HAD been taken back out of my account, but it was put back on my credit card, so I checked my credit card and sho nuf wuntcha no it!! IM AN ASSHOLE!!!  lol, I apologised, but still felt like an ass.  at least you were man enough to admit it, lots of guys wont.

Keith, I have to recommend it because I feel so GUILTY. It looks fine, snaps are rock solid, but it's about half the weight of the factory standard one, so I don't know what to tell you.

She flaps a bit more than the old one at high speeds, but how high do I go anyway?

Like I said, money was the big issue for me, and without snow to worry about, this was a no-brainer.

You know the same thing happened to me, but I found the zipper pull before I got upset.
Turns out the factory pulls are in the window, the aftermarket ones are in the top it's self

I got a "generic" Best-top, Seems it was about $150 but I've had it a while, no problems
