I'm running a 1994 Tracker 2door 4x4 5spd. I was wondering what is the easiest/most powerful swap that can be done to the Tracker/Sidekick? I've heard of a 4.3L swap. Anybody have any information or links to some info on this swap or any other type of swap? I've got a crashed s10 with a 4.3 TBI and an auto transmission so i was thinking that that might be the swap for me.

Thanks a bunch. Looks like my motor and trans. are going to work in my Trackick. Now i just got to find another one for a winter beater while i do the conversion. The kits seem to be pretty reasonably priced. For $3000 i can have my ride lifted 6" and have some 4.3 power. NICE!

Something to consider - a 4.3 weighs a lot more than the aluminum inline 4 found in your Tracker.
One of the things that make these little trucks so great is their light weight.
If you like the ability to burn rubber in every gear, the 4.3 may be for you.
For offroading - maybe not so good...
...just an opinion.

my friend runs a 4.3 and complete running gear from a blazer with heavy housings and the thing will burn rubber like crazy. He has found that he is now nose heavy and has to watch for big mud holes but like he sz....now it's a normal 4x4 and goes where normal 4x4's go.....a samurai gets everywhere because it's so light.
I'd stay away from running the stock tracker front, you are going to blow them like crazy. While you are swapping out the front you just match the rear and swap it all at the same time.

Thanks for the imput guys. Thinking of dropping the 4.3 idea. TURBO maybe. My only problem is my other ride is a v8 5speed S-10 and when i get in the Tracker it feels like im driving an oversized ride-on lawnmower.

2.5 or 2.7L V-6 out of a Grand Vitara 8) Pulls 37's at what ever speed you want rolling down the interstate... does OK on the trails too ;)

try going from a 5.4 to a .8 litre.....02 Ford F150 to 81 LJ80. It's bad when I get back in the Ford too.....I have to watch my speed real close.

Here in Chile we have a bunch of engine conversion in samurai and sidekicks. I have seen nissan v6 3.0 l twin turbo , subaru impreza 2.0 l boxer turbo . Suzuki 2.0 I4 turbo , nissan sr18DET,Toyota 4AGE , even a toyota soarer engine 1JZ-GTE I6 twin turbo ( that one is not ready yet....they are still working on the electronics)
I haven't seen them all directly but most of them. The 4AGE toyota engine works great if want something aspirated and not turbo , it's not really big just 1.6 liter but with 20 valves , twin cam , an 4 throttle bodys ( the black valve cover one) , now if you want more aspirated power try the nissan vg30 or 6G72 from the mitsubishi montero. In the turbo side I personally would choose a nissan SR20DET but they are really hard to find as the subaru boxer and the 1JZ-GTE put worth the trouble.
I must add that this engine are not the best options for trail ridding, but in sand dunes they work awsome
