I have a 4dr kick.
Does anyone deactivate their airbags while offroading?
Can you throw a switch into the harness somewhere to do it?
How often does the airbag sensors trip with a heavy duty steel bumper on the front while bumping into rocks?

It might be a good idea to either put a switch in or pull the fuse until you get a switch in to deactivate while you are offroad. I've seen bags go off in Suzuki vehicles with mild impacts.

I have a 96 4dr with air bags and have never had an issue of them going off when used for offroad nor have I ever heard of them going off on people as of yet.
To be sure... you can pull the fuse out of the yellow harness under the steering column and all will be ok as long as you do not mind the Air Bag light on the dash coming on.
As for the heavy bumper there are no worries there due to the air bag sensor being in behind the front fenders and not on the frame like other vehicles.
Hope that helps...

I have seen it happen. Last years Powerfest. Aftermarket bumper and he bumped the ground. Not hard enough to do ANY damage to the car though.
Video of aftermath...

that video is what got me thinking...

I thought about putting a switch in, but someone told me airbag systems use low resistance gold connectors and that it wouldn't work due to the resistance of the switch when closed. I think if I check the ohms before installing the switch and keep the resistance below that it'll be good to go. I think I been gettin lucky on some of my rides so far. Lookin back, this ice probably should have popped'em!

I felt some one was talking about me.
The sensor is under the radio on the 99+ models.
It would be a good idea to disarm them on the trails,THEY ARE LOUD!!!!
