Title: 1990 kick hesitate than stalls
Post by: taaaaaapis on March 29, 2009, 10:40:59 AM
Hi i've been running my sidekick (160000km)for a a year now no problem at all, last week while cruising around on a dirt road the engine suddenly stalls. after a couple of try it starts then run fine for a while. About an hour after same problem again. i brought it back to my garage try to find the problem. since its an on/off problem its not easy.

1-it happens at slow speed-at high speed-an when it runs idle
2-it can run fine for 1 hour an then suddenly stalls 3 times in less then 5 minutes
3 before engine stalls it hesitate and seems like the engine try to compensate for something by opening           up the throtle (observed while idling in the garage)
4-a little bit of dark smoke comes out of exhaust when hesitating and stalling
5- it does not start right after stalling it takes a couple of crank

sorry for mistakes english is my 2nd language

thank you for helping

Denis

I'm not an expert by any means but I would change the fuel filter above the rear axle if its the same as my 94' kick, just to rule it out as causing a problem, but it almost sounds like an ignition problem as when you restart it you see unburned fuel coming out your exhaust. Good luck with it hopefully someone more knowledgable will be able to help later....

My top guesses: fuel filter, ground wire to the fuel pump (behind driver tail light), or EGR system.

This is a simpler problem... And very common... The computer is bad. There are a few capacitors start leaking and go bad and cause the tracing on the circuit board to bo bad.
