Title: J20 Swap??
Post by: AZBadseed on January 26, 2009, 12:50:04 AM
Has anyone on here tried a J20 swap into a samurai?
I have (after loosing my first project samurai to a fire) secured another Samurai to prep for Off-Road Racing.
Within the rules I must use an engine of the same manufacturer, of the same block material, with the same number of cylinders as was available in the vehicle originally.
Displacement is 'open'.
Turbo and super charging is 'pro-hibited'.
I figured the 2.0 was the way to go.
I have found several on-line along with both auto and manual transmissions.
So those being the facts I had only the above question and...
Does anyone have a better idea? I wanna find the best way to go about it!

Thanks for the input and the help...

Mike

Aftermarket 4x4 had a writeup on their sight for most of it, and they sell brackets and everything to mount in the Tracker/Sidekick.

Cool thanks...I also found a kit on trail tough as well. Although I am not terribly concerned with mating it to the samurai tranny. I'd like to get the 3 or 4 spd auto and transplant the whole deal. I do however think that engine is surely the best setup i can choose within the rules. Awesome...I'll try and start a build thread when i get a little closer to things worth taking photos of! haha

It really depends on what rule book your running.  For Stock Class score lists any engine, but Best in the Desert requires a stock engine.  The Zukiworld series looks like it will be limited by weight.  :)

Keep posting updates on the conversion and build.  Questions and such should be posted in the General Forum.  :)
