Title: Where's my Jimny???
Post by: daddyizzle on June 03, 2008, 03:19:57 PM
A friend of mine just got back from Jamaica (gas was around $8.00 a gallon?). He said he rented a Jimny. They were all over Jamaica and his ran like a striped ass ape.

So, why won't suzuki sell these in the U.S.???? Surely there would be enough interested buyers. Are we being punished because consumer reports tricked so many people with their bogus report? ???

They pulled the Samurai out of the U.S. market and that was our last chance?? ???

Maybe I just need to call suzuki north america unless somebody here knows. ???

Probably don't meet American crash standards for bumpers and such and they would need 2 front air bags as well. The cost to make the changes wouldn't be too much. That is why the Land Rover Defender 90 was pulled from the N American market. L/R didn't want to redesign the dash to take airbags.

Jimny has front airbags as standard. Front bumpers are little different from the Vitaras. I think that it has everything to do with CR.

CR totally killed the sales. The Samurai went from the #1 selling convertible 3-years-running to selling... well... somewhere around 10% of what it was selling - overnight. Even with improvements like fuel injection, suzuki couldn't sell them. The impact was so harsh, it even drug down the sales of the sidekick - which is really a much better version of the samurai *puts on flame suit* for the street.

I called Suzuki North America and bugged them. Here is their number:

 1-800-934-0934

They didn't have much of an answer but it was still worth bugging them. I think I'll bug them again next week.

I also looked at the website for suzuki for other countrys. The Jimny has a 1.3 twin cam or a 1.5 turbo diesel from what I can tell. I want one bad. :P

They are a neat little truck but I love my GRV.

I don't know? If you like you can check them out on Y-Tube, if interested? I would love the diesel.
Happy trails :)
