Title: 1.3 or 1.6, 8 Valve?
Post by: Fasta76 on April 11, 2008, 04:53:07 PM
I have an 86 sammy with the stock 1.3. the compresson is low on all 4cyl around 130!! it runs well but low on power. I have a 1.6 8valve with the complete fuel injection system That i wanted to swap out of an 89 tracker. It needs a complete overhaul. Plus i would need to but the adapter kit and was thinking of having trail tough do the harness. Would i be better off just doing a refresh on the 1.3 or doing the complete swap? What is the power Diference? I would do a new cam and header at the same time. Just wanted to see what others would do. I dont want to spend lots unless its a way better option?

Thanks.

Tom

I have a 1.6 8-valve in my '88.

It has a AAoA Sumo cam, a Thorley header, a 2.25" exhaust and a Sarge-prepared Weber DGAV  32/34.  The performance difference between it and the old 1.3 as a daiily driver was quite noticeable! With 4.625 ring and pinions and my 30" BFG ATs, constant downshifting became a thing of the past.  I average 20-21 mpg and hit 65 at 4000 PRM - GPS corrected readings.  It still is a bit unnerving to run an engine that "fast" but my bone-stock '93 Sidekick 4-door runs about the same way on the interstate...

If you are running regular tires and a stock drivetrain, the same basic setup -substituted with the FI system - should work well too.

Im thinking of doing close to the same. But i also want to run a 4.16-1 T-case gear set with 31-11.50-15 Swamper LTB's.
