Title: Lifted sidekick tracker rear shocks?
Post by: v-stone on April 03, 2008, 11:52:58 AM
I've seen several differant types of shocks people have used for a 2" lift before, just can't find where now. So I'm starting a new post for it!

Please list the shocks (what they're off of) you have used here. Thanks for the help

I got a pair of Monroes from Lordco, but the f'ed up on the numbers and I did not know it till I went wheelin.  I told them I needed a set 2" longer than stock when fully extended.
They supplied me with a set 5.25" longer.  now my springs almost fall out when fully extended.
not going back there, I did my own math this time and ordered a set of ProComp #120510 shocks.
They are almost the same price and even come with rubber boots.
I think now on hind sight I should not have played the cross reference game, the ProComp shocks actually list that number as for a 2" lift.

i am using mustang rear shocks also.
a good auto parts store will let you look thru the shock spec. book. it lists lengths and mount types.
i figured the 'stang was lighter than the vic? bolted right in. feels good.

my 'rustang' shocks are also 1.5-2in longer than the crown vics.

OK. I've heard of 91 crown vics, 95 mustangs and kinda remember F150. I looked at the vics and the stangs tonight. It looked like the mustang would work better, same diameter bolt for the lower mount.

Installing tomorrow ;D

I've got the vics on mine and I did measure and they were truely 2" longer than the stock ones.  I am curious on the mustang shocks.  Does it matter what engine the mustang had or do all 95 mustangs have the same shocks?

all the mustangs do have the same shox...i have a the monroe part # on one of my old posts....if ya cant find it i can get it when i get home...i like the monroes because they are prettycheaply priced and lifetime warranty....so who cares about the boots??

I disagree on the mustang shocks being all the same!

I originally bought from Lordco, but on a whim checked the next door neighbour parts place and they crossed the shocks to two different Gabriel shocks: one was the same price because it was for a performance handling package and the other was $30 less because it was for the regular handling package.  I, of course, saved myself $30 and some extra valving that I don't want anyway.

The number I had was from a posting on this site.  Oh, and I measured them all ... they were all pretty much the same dimensions on the counter (But I have long since chucked the bit of paper I wrote it all down on.)

Cheers,

Aaron

F150 shocks work, and they're 3" longer than stock. Problem is, the tube is thicker so you need to modify or change the lower mount so it doesn't hit on up travel. You can buy shock mounts from Sky Manufacturing, they're not listed in their website, but they have them. Or you can make a set with the proper bolt, some metal and a welder.

So if you get the longer shocks for the rear...what do you guys use for longer Struts up front?

People will do any of the following:
Old Man Emu struts
Strut mount flip
Strut spacer
Longer struts included in various lift kits(calmini, ect)
Thread on strut extentions
Sometimes combo's of these...
I'm sure there are a few I missed...

A strut mount flip is snough of a lift upgrade to match the longer Crown vic shocks?  Or should you do a combo of flip and spacer.

suggestion
do the mount flip, check out how much the suspension will drop, then space as much as you feel comfortable with.
i only did 1/2", but could have done more(3/4"-1"?) looking at cv angles.
i also removed the sway bar to unlink the a-arms. seems ok for me on the road.

I built my own strut spacer

Bought the cheapest autozone had to offer for mustang shocks 1.75" longer at full length, 5" stroke (stock kicks are 7"). Not really impressed, but will do the job.

Just saw rear 99 F150 shock recommended but the diameter of the shock is so wide the lower mount needs to be modified (moved farther back) to fit.

so dumb question....i don't need a "spacer" for the rear if i go with longer shocks right?

And in theory if i just want a simple 2 inches of lift all i need is longer (Stang or crown vic) shocks in back.  And a strut mount flip in the front and that's a very basic 2 inches of lift.  Correct?

You will need coil spacers also. The longer shocks and strut flip are done to compensate for the added coil spring spacers. The coil spring spacers actually do the lifting.

I buy my shocks directly from Deotsch tech. I run the 8000 series. There about 40 bucks a shock and you can pick if you want the stud or the eyelet on the end. They also come in a variety of lengths. Give em a buzz there quite helpful.

So if I wanted say....just a basic 2 inches of lift.  I get the longer shocks, flip the strut mount, and install????  What?
2inch
or
1inch spacers?

What's the suggested front and rear spacer heights? I know they are off set like 2's in the rear and 1.5 in the front, or something to that effect.

Jeff1997 has some good spacers and very well may offer strut spacers as well... Not a bad "budget lift at all.... Good prices!!!

I did a little bit of research on the shocks today. Here is what I found on Monroe's site.

Part #   comp length    ext length
32316     11.5               18.2           this is the stock rear shock
32162     14.1               23.6           rear 80 - 88 T-bird/Cougar
32260     12.2               20.6           rear 92 - 06 E150
32268     13.1               21.7           rear 92 - 06 E250/350
32303     13.8               23.7           rear 97 - 04 F150

These shocks all have the same upper and lower mounting codes. The book does not tell you what the diameter of the shock body is though. I have the 32260's on my truck at the moment. I had the BDS shocks that came with my lift kit but found them a little too stiff when there was no weight in the back of the truck.
I might order the 32268's to see if the body is any bigger and if it is the same size I might try those - just looking for a little bit more drop in the back.
