Title: Tires for stock wheels...
Post by: pepatt on March 19, 2008, 06:18:21 PM
OK, I've searched the forum and come up with nothing, so here's my question...

What is the biggest tire size I can put on the stock Tracker wheels? I want to put on 235/75 R15's, but I'm told by a local tire shop that they're too big - they wouldn't go over 225/75.

Anybody else out there cheap like me  :-[ and run bigger tires on stock?

Oh, and just to save your posts, I am lifting the Track, so they'll fit!

Thanks!

One of the people who used to be on the forum here ran 235 retreads on an unlifted Tracker.  They fit.

I run 225 Dunlops on my Tracker with stock rims.  Wish I'd gone one size larger, and the dang things just won't wear out...

There is so much litigation and worry about liability that the bigger chains wont mount up anything even slightly different than spec. Your best bet would be to buy the tires in hand and take them to a small local tire shop to have them mounted. Or possibly check with the small shop and see if they can get the tires you want for a similar price. If you buy them there, they might waive mounting fees and possibly give you free rotation or something like that...

The local tire shop I deal with can get anything I want, is decent on the prices, I get free rotation for the life of the tires since I bought them there and I can usually get them mounted free, too. ;)

I have the 235/75/r15's on my stock rims.  No problems.  Actually I was curious and was looking at smaller sized super swamper tsl's and believe both of these will work on the stock tracker rim.

Radial TSL, LT215/85R15

TSL, 29/8.50-15LT

The 29" tire is only 1" taller than a 235.  My 235's fit without any lift and I bet the 29" would have too.  I am not sure what the overall height is of the 215/85.  I currently have the 2" coil spacer lift and 31" tsl tires on non-stock rims fit underneath but required a little fender trimming in the front and will be much more usable once I get my 2" body lift installed.

Oh, and the 235 tire will still fit on the spare tire rack with about 1/4" of clearance from the bumper.  :^)

Right now I have 31-9.50x15" TSL Radials on stock sammy wagons, which are the same dimensions as stock tracker rims with 1/2" less backspacing, and they fit on the rims fine. They fit the rims much better than 31-10.50 BFG All Terrains did. Although to fit 31's, I have a 2" body lift and 1-1/2" coil spacers...

I had 235/75/15 on my kick before any lift. Fit great, no problems at all.

You will not fit them under your sheetmetal without lots of lift by I run 34" x 9.5"  TSLS on my Samurai on stock rims.  My Jeep buddies call them pizza cutters. I give them a great look at them as I leave them behind on our skinny New England trails.

Actually, I am fortunate to have access to the equipment to mount and balance, so all of that is under control. I was just concerned that the bigger tire might not perform well on the smaller rim. Looks like that's not a problem. Now I just have to decide which tire I want!

Thanks to everyone for the info.

my 235/75/15 tires fit with very slight rubbing when the suspension is fully cycled when jumping and such.

mine are 28.7" in diameter. you can go to tirerack.com and lookup the exact diameter of the brand you are looking to buy
