Guys, Sorry. I searched it up for a while and had no luck finding the info I need.
I've got an 88 tin top with stock brakes. It's got some fairly large tires on it and is a trail rig only. The brakes suck. We completely redid them and it still requires most of your weight to hold it in place on a rock. I was wondering if there are any driveline brakes out there that bolt on similar to the rear disconnect....?

I can only think of two, the stock SJ410 E-brake and Spidertrax Disk E-brake. HAve you thought of changinging the rear drums to disk's?
I know after I swapped the rear drums for disk's that my braking power went up a lot.
And I have heard of swapping master cylinders to help increase pressure but I have not read up on the swap.

It's quite pricey but I believe that if I add a tougher master cylinder and maybe a brake booster that I can have much better normal braking and add that Spidertrax E-Brake and have more then enough brakes.
Is that a mechanical caliper?

you could put tracker calipers on the front and 88.5 and newer drums on the rear would help with out the hassle, I have an 88 sammie with stock brakes and 33" tires and have no problem maybe yours are gumed up some place?

Sorry bart, not like that. I used Trail Toughs economy rear disk kit, I got lazy in building my own set-up and went Brent's route. And it is half the price of Spidertrax conversion kit the RR has. Has the same pieces but the caliper mount's are steel not aluminum. I did use Spidertrax rear tubing kit though as it was easier than rounding up the pieces on my own.
And as mentioned you will need an e-brake, either Spidertrax kit or one from an SJ410. The other option is TT's rear disk kit which uses Subaru rotors that have an e-brake at the rotor.
After the rear disk conversion my brakes will drag my Zuki down to a stop in a hurry even with the 32" tires. And that is with just the rear disks, no master cylinder or booster upgrades.

Well It does just fine with driving on flat ground. Once you get the front end half way up some rocks and need to keep the 36" tires from rolling backwards the stock brakes don't cut it. I really Just need a better E-brake.

I would look at the disk brake conversion, maybe swapping over to the Imprezza master cylinder. Then just put a line lock on the system to keep it in place.
A home made conversion is pretty easy to do. It only took me only an afternoon, and that was welding it together wrong once.

Wow, shade tree at it's finest. :laugh: CAn't say much though as I was doing dang near the same thing accept I was going to build a couple of plates as caliper mounts so I would not need to weld the mounts to the axle and I was going to use SJ410 bearing retainers instead of modding the backing plates.
I have some of the parts needed to do the shade tree version left over if any one is interested in them, I would have to dig through the crap in the shop to see what I have though. Off the top of my head I know I have the cut down drums (no lug studs) and the caliper mounts. May have a couple of backing plates also but a better idea is to go with the 410 retainers.
