I'm surprised I couldn't find this subject in the search mode. Sometime in the last 20 + years, my headliner has crisped up and fallen down little by little. I'm positive others have had or will have this issue.
Anybody buy a kit to replace it? (Or what did you do instead?)
Which kit did you use?
What did it entail?
What can I do prep wise prior to getting a new kit? (do I have to get all the glue off and what about where the paint has been worn through or scratched)

It looks better as bare metal with the trace glue residue left over anyways. Really opens up the whole compartment. Maybe I'll use some of that white truck bed liner on it. Brighten things up. Extra thick may make soak up some sound. Hmmm...

here is a few made from wood http://bbs.zuwharrie.com/content/topic,61420.0.html thinking about doing the same but covering it in vinyl to match my doors might be easier than just trying to glue the vinyl up there

This project is on hold while I do my carb swap and get ready to change the timing belt but I am still thinking about it.
I actually thought about the wood idea but I don't know. It gets really dry here from November thru I think early February and then most the other time it's disgustingly humid. Wood and humidity, I just don't know.
Maybe the roof. With the arch support and the sides being allowed to just free float, that might work. + you could cram a thick piece of insulation up there for good sound absorption. I think they might have abs that would work too but $$$. I have a huge sheet of it in black but it's smooth and a little scuffed. A black headliner?? I think I found a glue up replacement kit on line for less than $100.00 that might be quick and easy. Not sure how long it would hold.
The doors on the other hand have fasteners that would be stressed trying to hold a panel that expands and contracts. + the wood would scratch where it's at. Looks real good when new though.
I'm pretty set on picking up the abs panels for the doors and back fender wells unless I decide to whack up something I have laying around. Hmmmm.. 8) ;D
