Title: fan clutch and fan bearings
Post by: bzzr2 on November 21, 2007, 03:26:41 PM
just wondering how many other 2nd gen owners have had issues with the fan clutch assemblies.  i'm on my 2nd replacement now.  i figure it's from a combination of deep water, murky/muddy water and the cold weather that is kicking in around my neck of the woods (north eastern ontario).   anyhow, just curious as to others experiences and also wondering if anybody has gone electric fan setup..

No problems with fan clutch or bearings here.

With the conditions you state - I'd say that an electric fan conversion is the way to go. Properly installed, an electric fan can get the job done as well as a belt driven fan AND you free up some ponies too.

that's what i'm thinking also, the manufacturers warranty has covered them this far but that be coming to an end very soon.

Josh, if you make an electric fan kit i'll take one.

Mines toasted. Since I have the motor out I'm installing an electric with a 185' t-stat switch.
It helps I'm a w-d for spal so I bought their highest end one.

Biggest prob with some kits is the thermo switch mounting. Most kits wedge the thermoswitch in the Rad fins. The prob is by the time the rad sees 190 the motor is over 220.

We did a kit on a Crown vic and the switch would kick on at 190 and the motor was at 220-230 f

i use a flex-o-lite in my 04 V6, rarely turns on while driving on the highway and the temp sensor is in the rad tube.  works great!
