We here at ZUKIWORLD are contemplating a whole new array of projects for the upcoming months but before we get started, we'd like to ask you what you'd like to see. Of course all of the vehicle project ideas involve Suzuki vehicles and power plants. Let's open a dialog to 'shape' these project ideas!
Please vote!
Thank you, Eric

I am currently building up my 2000 GV adventure style. I will be driving an all offroad route from coast to coast next year, the trail is called the TransAmerica Trail. This has been a dualsport motorcycle only trail, I completed it 3 weeks ago on my XR600. Next year I will be the first person to drive the entire trail in a 4 wheel vehicle. :D
So naturally I voted for the adventure build. 8)

Hello Jeff,
I'm familiar with this trail 'system'. This sounds like a very interesting plan. Check your PM please. ;D
Thanks, Eric

I didn't receive any PM's

I voted adventure build but a desert racer would be cool as well.
-
Do you remember Zag having a Suzuki powered airplane? That was interesting.

Wow! So far no one wants to see a world record attempt at a land speed record in a Suzuki auto? ??? I thought that would have got a couple of votes.... Thanks to all that have voted and for those that haven't. What's taking so long? ;D

A Zuki land speed recort would be an awesome project! But I lean towards off-road projects ;)
As for those slackers that have not voted yet :-\ I cant speak for them.

The land speed record was a close third. But I really want to see a Suzuki Score rig. Especially based on that Grand Vit idea you had last year at Christmas Valley. :)

Yeah, I've been leaning towards that project for awhile now. Some of the 'hold up' on that one is just making available the time to compete in either one of those series.

I've raced several BITD's on a quad, its alot of fun.

Cool, That's what I'm trying to make my Tracker into, a true adventure vehicle. It's already pretty close, and it sure provides plenty of adventure!

I was gonna vote for land speed just to make you feel better, but i thought you would want my honest opinion >:D
i know you said "attempt", and you know how much i love these cars, but i think the land speed record would be a little far off with trying to keep it mostly suzuki based(motor/tranny/case/axles/frame/body).
You go for it though, you always have support of your suzuki brothers and you know we will cheer you on the whole way ;)

do bikes count or only suzuki car/trucks
Iv seen a few 450 turbo busa
or maybe a tube chassi busa powered car like thing
-
I think a baja version of a sami with a vw 1.6 desil would be an interesting build up IMHO

That would be interesting but I think it would be very hard to make that competitive. Great ideas though... keep 'em coming!

Ok, I'll give a few more details. If we do a land speed record attempt it would be at Bonneville next year and it would be in a Swift GT that we have been using for a mini-stock Circle track racer for several years. We'd do some redesigning of a few things on the car and then go for it.

You've defiantely got my interest. What is the current land speed record in a Suzuki 4 wheeled vehicle?

They have only a couple of 4wd vehicles grand fathered in. I believe now only 2wd is alowed.

The Suzuki Swift we'd run would be in the G or H engine catagory
G 93 thru 122ci 1.51 to 2.00 L
H 62 thru 92ci 1.01 to 1.50 L
...and the car would probably be GAS COUPE and SEDAN - /BGC, /GC unless we went back to a stock 1.3 twin cam engine and then I think we could get a PRODUCTION COUPE and SEDAN - /PRO (Gas Only ) but because Suzuki called it a GT we may get a GRAND TOURING SPORT - /BGT, /GT (Gas Only) rate.
All of these variables equal different MPH/Speed records.
2007 record runs for "in the ball park" vehicles:
TEAM ENGINE Vehicle OLD NEW RECORD
Carlson / Cochran Racing G PS 196.824 203.418
Hardman Racing G BGL 231.116 248.309

Being a Newbie I don't have much say but I'd like to see an adventure vehicle lifted, with tons of racks, lights and a VW multi-fuel diesel conversion. Being a survival-mined person, an "end of the world, bugout, last vehicle you'll ever need" would be fun. and a matching trailer to carry spare fuel/parts/gear/food.

Interesting. So your "adventure vehicle" would be a Samurai based one, I assume. The idea of "end of the world, bugout, last vehicle you'll ever need" is an interesting one. For discussion's sake, we're leaning towards building a Second or Third generation Grand Vitara as the 'adventure vehicle'. I'm not sure that the VW 4-cylinder would have enough power. Diesel is a good idea though. I wonder if there are other options for a GV chassis, Mercedes... 4-cyl Cummins?
-Eric
-
I did the VW 1.9 TD install into my LWB Samurai 2 years ago and it was the best motor swap I've ever done. I have been toying around with the idea of installing a diesel into my current GV adventure build. I've looked into importing a half cut GV diesel but haven't had any luck yet. Now I'm thinking maybe VW TDI if I can find someone that can figure the wireing issue out.
I think the Cummings and Mercedes motors will be too heavy. Another option would be the Isuzu 2.2 turbo from the Trooper.
-
I was just talking the other day about wanting to see you do a Grand Vit adventure build. A vehicle designed from the ground up to explore the back country and allow quick and easy camping and cooking out of for a couple of weeks on the road and trail.
Maybe an integrated tent into the tailgate... Or a swing out cooking area built into the tailgate and a bed in the back so you don't have to setup a tent? If you do the matching trailer setup you should go with a military hitch to get more flex out of it. :)
The Isuzu 2.2L only had 62 hp, so even with the extra torque it might not be enough motor for a Grand Vit. Is the V6 really that underpowered for the vehicle?
-
I'm talking about the 2.2 turbo Isuzu.
The V6 is ok, I'm just a diesel guy.

I have a friend with a clean Sammy body and frame, and a cousin with a Mustang convertible with a 302 in it.. I must say the rat rod idea was tempting. ;D
-
Looks like adventure vehicle is in the lead but don't let that stop you from voting if you'd like to see one of the other options!
Thanks, Eric

I'm totally down for a Zuki land speed record attempt, but that whole frontal mass thing is probably going to hold back even the slipperiest Sammy. I think the guys out there last year in a rear drive 1300 Hayabusa powered Metro with gun slit windshield is going to take you. Seems like the Camel truck thing is sorta what many of us are attempting with our own rigs, so on to BAJA!
Or my other vote "Moon Rover Suzuki"-- Something like Fully independent computer controlled self leveling Air shocks (Land Rover sourced?) Just thought I'd throw it out there.

Interesting, So you're thinking of land speed Samurai project (or, that is what came to mind)... Hmm, that would be interesting for sure.
Hi-tech buggy would be cool. Why not remote control option?

Adventure 4x4 - I just love getting out there and experiencing "the great outdoors".
GV based gen 2 or 3 OR what about an XL7 ;)

I've got a group of guys +/- 10 Samurai's that are going to be helping me build up a BITD/SCORE racer. I would hope to have it done for Vegas to Reno this coming year. We'll see, it's a bit of a class issue too. It would fit in 3000 or 3100 (BITD) or 3 (SCORE) but it would be way overmatched (many running 450+ HP). But I guess it's all about making it in the end right?? haha
My VOTE is obvious...I dont want to be the only one out there!! Good Luck!

You mean to tell me you plan to race a Samurai? Wow, that would be a challenge. :) Please share with us as you go through the process.

No kidding. I thought he was talking about building up a Tracker...
Shame you can't race in the same class as the VW's. The HP rating is about the same... :P

I'm just guessing they'll race a Samurai from his posts. I don't know...

yeah the plan is for a zuk to race in "a race" in 2008 hopefully v2r but we'll see. there is a lot of work to go and once we get rolling i'll start up a thread!

Suzuki based Rat Rod
Here is my buddies. It is a sidekick 4 door frame with a sami tub. It had the kick engine and trans (2wd) moved back about 8" and mated to a sami t-case with gears. Toy axles up front with GV steel housing. 37" mtrs. It rocks!

Maybe a sidekick ratrod would be cool...

Blakes ride rocks!!!!! 8)

I voted for the adventure vehicle because that is what my end plans are for my 'Kick. The other ideas would all be a ton of fun, but for me it would be nice to get ideas for my rig by watching ZW build something along the same lines.
Then ZW could raffle it off to benefit charity and I could get the winning ticket! ;)

is this real? or "pie in sky"?
I call "vapor" since this "vote" has been around for ages now.
