Well since som many are now lifting thei Vit/Track I though I would start a thread with pics of the lifts as well as teh specifications. What would be nice is if people with lifts would post pics from the side, front and rear, as well as the front suspension geometry (front under the truck) so we can see teh CV angles on different lift heights. I'll be posting mine with a 1.5 inch suspension lift in the front and 2 inch in the rear + 2 inch body lift running on 245/75/16's. I have the BDS front strut extenders and rear ranchos from an 89 landcruiser.

very very good idea !!!!

front sway bar is in, you can see it behind the control arm
that lift looks pretty good
-
I suggest that we keep this a sticky
I was wondering if anyone has a FAQ on how to install the Rocky Road 2" BL?
I'm thinking of ordering it, but I'm not a big fan of having to weld shifter extentions
-
I just noticed that your bodylift is barely noticeable. 2 inch is a good height for the body lift on a 2nd gen kicker I guess. I also like the grille, how do you get the stock one out? finally, did you make those spacers or buy them somewhere and if you bought them where?
thanks

Call them before ordering. I ordered mine a week ago and it probably wont ship until next week.

Nomaad did an excellent write up for the RRO bodylift on an XL. It should be the same. Here is the link: http://www.carneyco.com/ProjectNomaad.pdf
I'll post pics of mine when I can.
-
There is also a writeup for a 2dr Vitara here:

Hey Guys,
I'll be selling the suspension lift I currently have on the Grand Vitara. The lift consists of BDS 2" strut spacers that you can use with your stock strut bar. 4 HMWP Spacers (1.5" front and 2" rear) as well as a set of Rancho shocks that are 2" longer. I decided I don't want the GV quite so high as I already have the body lift installed. $200 for all if you're interested.
-
how much were those strut extenders originally? was curious about that
-
They were about $60.
-
Mine were about $45.
-
$45 Shipped?
-
$45 from a local place. BDS doesn't sell it's stuff online or through mail order distributors. You have to find a local or semi-local distributor. 8)
http://www.bds-suspension.com/php/distributor.php
-
I had to have it shipped since the local BDS distributor didn't stock it.
-
I see why they don't post prices on the internet, they are all over the price. Mine were $30 a piece + $15 shipping for a total of $75. They said I had to order 2 pieces, the invoice showed to pieces, and I received exactly 2 pieces not 2 pairs like I hoped after talking to AJMBLAZER and others. That is one wacky company.
-
I think you got screwed by an uninformed or duplicitous dealer, not BDS. I've always had good luck with BDS.
-
I agree or there may be different distribution warehouses? I opened the box packaged from the BDS warehouse, the invoice inside listed 2 pieces part #FSE3 and it only included 1 pair not two pairs. I was in hurry at the time so I didn't question them much, but the distributor knew absolutely nothing about the kit for Suzuki's they had never ordered one before.
-
Okay, you got screwed somewhere...not sure where...my bat-sense says that someone was trying to cover their |removethispart|@ss but I'm known for being a paranoid bastard... ;D
-
so is everyone who's used the BDS strut extenders 100% satisfied with them?
-
I am very satisfied except for a couple of issues I had.
1) My local distributor knew nothing about it and I got screwed on the price. It's stil a nice part even for $75 and you know better now.
2) The tolerances are so tight, it can be a real pain screw on. As long as you are prepared for this it shouldn't be a problem. Here's my thread on the problem http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=11771.0
3) I will wait to give judgement on how it works until I have used them longer. My only concern is that it seems to add about 2.5" of droop which is more than every other product on the market. That could be a good or bad, I suppose if it is bad there are alwasy limiting straps ;)
-
so they add 2.5 inches of extra downtravel than stock? sucks that your extensions and quaddog's had the same problem. I hope if I get them someday I won't have that problem although it seems there are a couple of ways to either bore out the extension or grind down the stock strut
yea, I'd like to know how those are working for you later on down the road.
thanks
-
i think you will be ok with 2.5 inches, with the 1.5inch front spacer your lift is roughly 2inches. have you jacked up the front and and let it hang down? i'm wondering if the spring and spacer might loosen up if it droops too much. just a thought anyway. i'm still running the stock strut setup....
-
I'm not worried about the springs, on the passenger side I had to practically stand on the control arm to get the springs in there with the 1.5" spacers. It would take a lot more droop for the springs to come loose. I did notice with Tracker jacked up the passenger side axle was difficult to rotate by hand at full droop because the CV was binding up some. If I raised the control arm some I could definately notice it free up and rotate easier.
-
"passenger side axle was difficult to rotate by hand at full droop because the CV was binding up"
Hmmm that kinda sets alarm bells ringing for me, have you lowered the front diff? From what I've heard it is generally a good idea if you lift the car over 2" but I would guess the same would apply if you let it droop too far as well.
-
right, i guess that is pushing it for sure then, the limiter straps you mentioned might be a good idea. how much do you figure you moved it up before things began to free up? i'd want to go up that +.5in more just to be safe if i was in that position. it just isn't worth potentially f'in up the front end. cv axle's are way to pricey on our model years.
-
how do the 1.5 inch spacers work out with the struts left stock? kind of curious, don't think I'd have to worry much about CV angles like that because it wouldn't droop enough, doesn't have much travel up front the way it is.
does anyone know if there is a way to get axle drop brackets for 2nd gen kicks like ours other than getting the calmini 2.5 inch lift or making some?
thanks

Hey Blacknight, post up some pics of that rig in your avatar! That thing looks awesome!

Click on the Quote for his pics after the snorkel install.
Well got my snorkel from FTS4x4 on ;D The install was a little unnerving cutting a 3" hole in my zuki but other than that went smoothly.
George
I'm sure he has posted others too if you search for stuff by Blacknight.
