Been lurking the site for a couple of months now :-X. Decided to jump on the bandwagon and join up. Quick bio on my rig; year ago change the timing belt and of course my luck it snaped in half, 400 miles later. So my pistons and valves decided to play patty cake to celebrate there new freedom :-[. Saved enough green to rebuild the power plant, But after reading the posts on turbo deciding to scrap the idea of a normal rebuild and going now for HP ;D. Just wanting to say thanks to wild and the other guys for some excellent writes. See ya around :).

welcome and have fun..let us know how it goes!

I might be mistaken, but the 1.3 and 1.6
are non interferance engines, what was it
that was hitting on your engine ?
Is it posable that something got ingested
and roached (no pun intended) your engine ?

I believe a 16V isn't non interferance, so if the belt brakes on them your valves will hit the head ???
I almost forgot :-[ WELCOME

Just the thought of it all makes me shutter....and just one more thing...
Welcome to ZukiWorld!

That is interesting, I have a 1.6L
16V from an 86 I think, I turned the
cam with the pistons straight up and
there was no contact, I wonder what
the difference is between these two
engines, did you use a 16V head on
8V pistons ??

My 8V is non-interference, but I have heard rumor that  the 16V is :-/ But I have never broken a belt on one :P

Yeah the 16 valve is definitely an interference engine!  Um, Darin, I gotta wonder how exactly you pulled that one off!
EDIT: And Welcome, Roach!
-
does it not depend on how many rpms you were hitting at the time of the break
Welcom mate

800 rpm (aka idle) is quite a few times for things to strike (that's what 3 piston cycles per second).

86, 96, EHH, WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE ::)

Boom Boom, Bang Bang, Ouch Ouch, Ching Ching, in that order (with a cuss word or two thrown in for seasoning) ;D
Welcome to the 'World; if these guys (and girl; sorry Heather) can't fix it, it ain't broke. Best of luck on the rebuild, too!
