How do you disassemble a samurai birfield shaft. I was thinking about the calmini upgraft front shafts. only problem is last time I had the shafts out, taking the axle shaft out of the birfield seemed impossible. Any tips on how to pull the shaft would help out alot. Thanks!

there was a how to on zuwharrie, but i cant seem to find it now....anyway, just find a friend or local shop with a press and make quick work of it

hit it with a hammer

ok, where do I hit it? it seems like it wouldn't need pressing, it would need some kind of puller.

I found a pipe that the axel shaft would fit in smoothly, set it against the floor of the shop (with a board between it and the pavement) and just picked it up and smashed it down until the shaft popped off.
On the long shaft it didn't take much time at all. The short one took about 15 minutes for me, and 30 minutes for a buddy. I guess it depends on how strong that snap ring is.
When I put the other shafts together, I just put the snap ring on the Calamini axels, lined up the birfield, and slammed it together. I have heard a press works well for that though. ;D
You might look at just upgrading the entire kit though, including the birfield. Someone released new axels and birfields, but I can't find the reference to them now....
[Edit] Found it. CV Unlimited. (http://www.cvunlimited.com/NEWFIELD/suzuki.htm) Has anyone else tried these out?

i bought some calmini 26 spline shafts and had to drop the cvs off.
i had spanish shafts and i put the shaft in the vice , 2 hits with a copper hammer and they were off. internal circlip , i think the jap ones are slightly different and may take a bit longer
