OK, since I had my first trail casualty (right CV) I am wondering where everyone sources CV shafts and parts..
I bought a new one off Ebay.. just to see how good it was.. it cost about $45 delivered, with NO core charge, and it looks.....ok... I didn't put it in, I am keeping it for a trail spare.
Other than that, I bought both a left AND a right, used Green cup axles (I heard they were Japanese made and stronger....) used off a guy on ebay for $40 for both of them..
SO.. I fixed my damage, and got a spare for each side for about $90.00.. The local 'Zone wants $60 something, plus a $50 core.. which is still cheap.. but I was wondering where you guys source these.
ALSO, as I think Wildgoody mentioned.. it is usually the cage that breaks.. and on my broken CV, that is all that is wrong, just a busted cage.. I would like to get the cage and rebuild this one, so I will have another spare.. where do you buy the componants for the CV's????
If I KEEP breaking them.. I will go for the Yota swap... but I want to see if I can keep them stock for a while... and adjust MY driving style.. :-)

i'd be interested to hear what people are paying for cv's on the 99's and up, i was speaking with GM regarding my tracker and was told they are just over $1000CDN each side. WTF? i'm not a mechanic by any means but know my head from my a$$, how different are the 99+ models cv's from the older models? i'm told with the newer ones it's the whole shaft that has to be replaced if something goes... is this a stronger setup? any tips or advice would be appreciated i don't have any breakage but was curious, thanks.

EMPI you know the VW aftermarket company,
they have a whole line of CV joints and components,
I don't know who is a distributor, but I did get a
bunch of rebuilt CV shafts (not Suzuki :( ) and
a catalog was in there.

Hmmmm, 1000 Canadian, what's that about $2.50?  (just kidding..sorry, couldn't resist)
It's the whole shaft on the older ones too... rebuilts at Autozone are 60 with a $50 core.
Rebuilts on Ebay are $45-90 with shipping (be careful) that is both cv's with shafts, and boots, ready to slide in...
I looked up rebuilts on Autozone for a 99 Vitara 4wd and they are only $65 plus $50 core...
Grand Vitaras, same price
Ebay has them for the 99-04's for about $90 with shipping Rebuilt.
Tell your dealer to take a flying #*$(  YA KNOW??
And.. don't let them tell you that is with labor.. cause these may be the easier front drive axles I have ever replaced... 5 minutes on the driver side, and maybe 20 on the passenger if everything goes smoothly..
At a dealer, on a rack.. I guarantee I could replace both sides in under half an hour.. and I will take a bet on that!

Be careful with the auto parts store rebuilds. The snap like candy. I would chose a junkyard axle first. Sounds like ebay is the place to buy if you ask me. I dont know if Hawk can touch those prices or not but I am certain that they would have a ton of them in stock. They have everything Suzuki and real nice people too. They are a sponsor of this site. Yah... the ebay remanufactured one didn't look too hot... but I will save it for a trail spare. I guess I will try Hawk's or my local yards and scarf up a couple of each side.. but then again.. maybe I oughta just do the yota swap and be done with it... (and start cracking housings or something else...LOL)
