Here is the tenative plan for the spring ride.
We could meet in Whitehall, MI (20 mi. N. of Muskegon) at 8:00 AM on Saturday April 1, 2006. Grab bagels & coffee. Lidea's Cafe (behind Taco Bell) on main street (Colby Rd.) just off US. 31. Get organized and be ready to roll by 9:00 AM.
Section One
A forest two track along a creek valley with some technical climbs, descents and a couple mud holes. Should take about an hour to compleat this section. Stock rigs can bypass or park and ride/watch the bad spots.
Optional idea. Demonstrate recovery from mud hole with a HiLift jack.
Section Two
A forest two track along a river. Some steep tight climbs. One very difficult climb (lockers, big tires, lift). Some mud and ruts. 2 miles of paved roads then back on two tracks for another 8 miles. Should take about an hour to compleat this section. Stock rigs can bypass or park and ride/watch the bad spots.
Section Three
A short forest trail through an open ORV area the DNR propose to close in the future. Some short sandy hills to climb. Some rutted mud holes to cross (spring rains will help). Should take less than an hour to compleat this section. Stock rigs can bypass or park and ride/watch the bad spots.
Section Four
Two track and powerline. Some steep sandy hills along the way. Tight, winding two track that leads to a tall steep hill with several trails up and down it. Good place to sit and watch each other attempt the climb. Several stub trails around the hill with different levels of difficulty. Should take about an hour or so to compleat this section. Stock rigs can be assisted or bypass first sandy hills and park and ride/watch the big hill.
Lunch at Zeek Lake roadside park on M-20 (restrooms). Bring your own food. :P
From there we could either continue on more two tracks or venture to Silver Lake (20 mi.) and play in the big sand box. We can vote on it at lunch.
These trails are not extreme so save your rock buggy for the Cliffs or Badlands and drive a street legal Zuk. Several miles are on paved backroads. An ORV sticker is a good idea to keep the DNR happy. Since most the trails are on public land we will try to tread lightly by running in 4wd on any soft areas, etc.
-
I'd be up for it, but you said street-legal zuks only... plus there's a local wheeling event that day up here :(
-
I wish we didn't have to go down public roads but there is several miles between places. It would be risky but it would be up to you. I don't mind. There is a big parking lot in Whithall to leave a trailer/tow rig. The trails start about 3 miles from town.
Sorry about the date. What event is on the same day? A zuk one? Picking a day is not easy. Zuwharri, other events, etc. Turkey hunting opens on the 16th or something and didn't want hunters being upset at a convoy of Zuks. Then there is the opener of Trout at the end of the month and these trails are mostly along rivers. Oh boy. :-\
-
Opening day of Trout season (April 1st) could be a problem, there will be guys camped out along the rivers everywhere, starting Friday night. Would it be possible to get a different date? Not only will there be fishermen everywhere, but the DNR will be out in big numbers too. Better have an ORV sticker for certain.
-
Opening day of Trout season (April 1st) could be a problem,
Actually the opener of trout is the last Saturday in April (29th) for all but the all-year opened streams that we wil be close too. And Turkey hunting doesn't begin until April 17th. So it shouldn't be an issue.
I'm a Hunting & Fishing guide so I need to know these things. ;D
-
Great, I was going by one of my buddies word, should have known better. ::)
-
Still going on as planned? I'm going to take a weekend off of moving to come ride with you guys.
I talked to an Uncle today who would like to bring his Sammy.
-
Yep. That would be great. Looks like we will have several zuks there. The more the better. ;)
-
Ok, lets see if I can keep track of who is planning to attend. If you are planning on it post a reply or let me know and I will update this list. This is a tenative list if you are not on it you can still show up but it would be nice to know what to expect. If everyone shows we may have to break into a couple groups.

Damn, Missouri? Props to Samilitant... :P
I'm still planning on being there, providing school doesn't say otherwise. I even have a Tracker to drive now. So how much of this could be done with all seasonish tires? It's got 31" all seasons on it ::) and I doubt I'll have better tires that soon.
-
I think you will do fine. We even have a few stockers going so I wouldn't worry too much. Besides if you get stuck that is part of the fun. ;)
-
I talked to my uncle last night, he's a maybe. T-case re-gear, parts should be here by Mon-or Tues next week. He wants to add some bracing, ect to T-case mounts before wheeling much. SAS 33's tintop.
Looks like a good amount of trucks, I went wheeling there with some of the Michigan Jeepers group a couple of years ago. I would think a stock rig could get to most of the spots, maybe just not play as hard.
I'm looking forward to this. ;D
-
look like a good list :)
1 more friend of mine is going also (stock 4 runner )
-

Might need to ask you to help with some trail ideas if we run out. Some of the spots we will go through are too nasty for stockers but there are by-pass trails for them. It will be fun.
I went out this evening with a friend just to see how his Toyota PU would do since some of them may tag along. He has a 4" lift and runs 32x11.50 MTs. He stayed with me over the first couple climbs and then we went down into the low lands. The first mud pit was deep and soft. I slowly churned my way across it pushing broken ice with my bumper. I got to the other side and jumped out to watch his attempt. His front end dropped into the pit with one back tire high in the air. He spun a couple feet forward and that was it. I backed into the mud, hooked him up and drug him across. It was fun. ;D He also got stuck in to other places that I just crawled through. He was :-[. Don't get me wrong I like Yotas. I use to have one. But I love my Tracker. ;)
-
??? you went without invite? i know what you mean i used to have 7yotas before this tracker .
-
Sorry purpletracker. It was just a spur of the moment thng. He brought his Toy to work today and said he wanted to go wheeling. Next time.
-
3 weeks to go. More wheelers are on the list now. Get those things done to your Zuk to have it ready. You know what I'm talking about. ;) Like I should talk. I have a Shrockworks winch bumper still in the box, 4.24:1 T-case gears on my desk, haven't even ordered my locker yet or found a winch I can afford. ::) Oh well, guess I either have to get busy or take it the way it is.
-
If I have the time I will be coming up for this. I have a 5 day atv trip planned close to this date, so it will depend on where I am for preping the atvs if I come or not.
I will be in a black stock 96 tracker.
-
Hope you can make it. Added you to the list. Oh ya, welcome to Zukiworld. ;)
-
Have some great trails for the afternoon now if you all want to go there after lunch. Scouted them out yesturday. Should make for an adventure. ;) Wish I had my lower ratio T-case gears in. Maybe I'll find the time before the ride.
-
SilverLake will be pack that day.. i vote trails
-
I say trails as well. Hope we can go. :P
-
I vote for the trails too. ;D Much more fun than blasting around in the sandbox. I will have to get there though sometime to see how the little trucklet will do. If anybody wants to hit Silver Lake on Sunday morning I might be up for that.
-
Next weekend guys. Get them rigs ready. I still don't have my locker in. Or my T-case gears. Or my flares. Or my CB radio. Or my winch. I best get busy or I will have to take it the way it is. :P If we are lucky we will get rain through the week. No dust. Good mud. ;)
-
your tracker is pretty impressive the way it is ..it flex real nice i wish i would ve brought my camera so i can get all action . can't imagine that thing locked .
-
ONLY 5 Days to go! :)
-
I'm out. :( Eyeball deep in homework and work drama and not enough time to finish either of my wheeling vehicles. >:(
-
Bummer. I hope things change. Was looking forward to wheeling with ya. :'(
-
There will be other opportunities.
I was looking forward to it but I'm so far behind with anything it's pathetic. Haven't even touched the parts truck let alone put it's diffs in the '96. :P Meanwhile I have people lining up to buy stuff and I still haven't had a chance to even meet their requirements. :(
-
My dad and I will be attending this event in his samurai with "twins".
Here's his samurai:

so if you see us , say hi!
-
igniter is out i hope amjblazers dist will get here in time. otherwise ill be there in the 4 runner. i vote trails also. ;D
-
No question trails are the way to go.
I talked with mikesova's Dad tonight they are in, I'll leave Ionia at 6:30 Sat AM. I'll be flat towing my Track with my wifes red Yukon.
Looks perfect.
-
I hate you guys downstate. Our predictions are 5-10 degrees colder than you. I still have snow in places in my yard. >:(
I promise to use my absence to fix my Tracker and steal parts off the parts vehicle.
-
My wife and I will be leaving the Lansing area about 5:30. We look forward to a good time.
-
I just noticed this post as I am sitting here in class, bumed that I can't go with Jason Pugh to the cliffs cuz I dont have enough money. I live in Grand Rapids, and have a 90 tracker 4x4 lifted 4 inches with 32's. It is a cheap rig, no bumper cover, no cage (Yet), no winch... But I got tow points, Anyhow I will see what I can do and let you know. I work for Nextel and have alot going on in the store right now, but I would love to go.
-
for all of you that can't make it ... :P we might and maybe post up some pic......if we fell like it
-
starting to get the trails I havent been on excitement .... building ... so far its the yellow spitfire & my brothers s tintop w/ a 16 v & 35s coming from my little samurai cult.... everybody else says running motors & plates & ins. are some how important
-
I wish we could go 100% trails but unfortunately some roads get in the way. The ones that do are just county back roads. Still best if the rigs are legit.
My wife said she will try to get cool pictures of everyone at some of the fun spots. 8)
-
Hey guys I know this is not Toyota forum but I would like to wheel with you guys when ever I can, last weekend was fun my red toy is dried out and ready to go again. May be this weekend. ;)
-
You are welcome to meet us in Whitehall on Saturday. There may be a few other Toys along anyway. ::)

Sorry about that. :-[ Yes. You can come. It is an open invite. I'll put you on the list. See you there. ;)
-
Alright very cool, I went with Jason Pugh down to Badlands few weeks ago then went out and bought this geo. Anyhow business is slow here at nextel, they are widening the road (Good 'ol michigan construction), so I will see what money I can come up with and let ya'll know.
-
The place we were going to get bagels and coffee is being remodeled and is closed. So we are meeting in the Plumbs parking lot just before the Taco Bell. They have a Deli in there with coffee, breakfast food, etc so that should work out. They also gave us permission to meet there and park our tow rigs in their lot.
Update. Meet in Plumb's parking lot.
-
got the tracker fixed amjblazer saved the day! so ill be bringing the tracker. ;D

Section Six The climax. Take a long muddy two track across a swampy area and across a stream and then come to a big steep hill (Crystal Lookout). Some steep technical climbs for the hard core wheelers. Should be fun to watch each other attempt different runs.

The early bird gets the worm or something like that. Anyway I am planning on being there at 8:00 AM. See you there.
-
Shredder,
Great job!! Hat's off to you.
We had a blast, sorry about the mud-maybe next time ;D.
I enjoyed meeting/wheeling with this group, till next time 8).
(Oh and let's see some pics!)
-
Thanks Twins. I hope everyone had fun. I'm downloading the pictures into my computer now. Will try to have some online by tomorrow.
BTW- I spent almost $10 at the car wash just to get most the mud off. ;D
-
got the tracker home at about 2:oo am. should have it welded up and ready to drive tomorrow. ;D
-
The wibornz team was back by 1100. Son looked at his swamped muddy smashed in Tracker and just shook his head. I just told him "son its a zuki thing you wouldn't understand."
I will post some pictures on Monday. We should start another thread to post all the pictures.
-
It was a long day but I think it well. We headed out with with about 15 rigs (6 TracKicks, 4 Samis, 3 Toyotas, 1 Cherokee, and a Sami/Buick/Spitfire hybred). Hope I didn't forget someone. Some could only do a partial day and 1 was a DNF but the majority stuck it out for the day. Even had 2 stocker TracKicks go the duration. There were some stucks, one swamped, a couple breakdowns, and some carnage so it was interesting.
Thank you to everyone for showing up and wheeling with us. Hope it was a good time. A special thanks to SpitfireRick for being the caboose and making sure we all made it back. And thanks to Wibornz (Ted) for entertaining us with a dip in the waterhole. Brrrrrrrr.
I'm working on my pictures now. E-mail some to me and I will get them on a webpage for everyong to see. Thanks.
-

I just wanted to say thanks for the enjoyable morning that I was able to spend wheeling w/my daughter. We left early so not to push my luck with her, she is 3( first time out with her). I will definitely come back for a longer day next time, I am dissappointed that we missed the other trails, and MUD. Can't wait to see more pics. Thanks Mike and Magda :D
