clutch pedal feel

I've adjusted the cable to spec.  The disengagement point is spot on, but the pedal has a goofy feel to it.  Increasing resistance at first, like you would expect, but after about 1.5" of travel, the resistance is really minimal.  So, even though the clutch is disengaging after about 1" of travel, the light resistance means that I often end up sending the clutch almost to the floor anyway.

Anyone have any clues?

Thanks.

Is it a new cable?  If not it could be streched out, worn out, or woven through the engine compartment the wrong way.  If it is new then the only other thing I can think of is the spline on the lever where it connects to the tranny.  If that spline is worn enough to allow the clutch to release when you get to a certain point, rendering your pedal and cable useless the rest of the way up or dow, it might cause it to feel like you are describing.   Otherwise, I've worked clutches on a number of Sammis and Trackers and not a one of them felt the same.  Some do feel rather "limp."  I would say if you are sure the clutch is always engaging/disengaging all the way then apply the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it rule" and leave it be.

After my factory cable broke (got into the power steering pump), I put in an aftermarket one and it has never really felt right to me, but it works.

It's not a new cable.  I don't know if the previous owner replaced it or not, but I'll check the routing.
