I WOULD CHECK YOUR REAR PINION SEAL AND ALSO CHECK TO SEE IF REAR END HAS GHREASE IN IT. MY TRANNY WAS MAKING ALOT OF NOISE AND I GUESSED IT WAS ON THE WAY OUT BUT SURE ENOUGH THE REAR END WENT,

good idea but it seems a lil doubtful cause i would think if it was the rear the whine would be speed relitive, as it is gear relitive now (2nd,3rd,and 4th dont whine).  i am ganna change out tranys this weekend and then we will know for sure  i will let ya know.

If you push in the clutch and it goes away Its probabally a bearing in the trans. Ive had quite a few go out. Its actually kinda common.

I think Mike is correct on this one. I have had two trannies fail like this. When the fluid change does not do much to correct the whining, as you keep driving it, the whining will become louder in 1st, then progress to whining in second, then third gear over time.Once second gear starts it will progress alot faster if it's the trans bearing). In my X-90 I puched it for thoudands of miles whining like this till it blew the trans apart I was curious how long it would last and it made it somewhere around 15K before it blew (from the start of the whining)  The bad part was it blew apart on the first day last winter that it hit single digit temps, was sleeting, I left my cell at home, had to walk dowm the interstate a couple of miles to the closest store and wait 2 hours for a friend to get off work and come get me 100 miles from home

Yea, looking back now it is to me too My friend Bob that came to pic me up and haul the X home had driven it the weekend before it blew and asked me why I was still driving it like that. I just laughed and told him that I had to get a new trans, so I was just going to drive it till it blew. He gave me all kinds of smart ass comments on that ride home
